I have an older dog who has known health problems. He is on medication for coughing and another to help coat his stomach. I know the pills should be helping, and he is scheduled for another vet appointment soon, but right now he is coughing a lot. He hasn't eaten much because he's coughing too much to be able to swallow, I'm guessing. Any suggestions as to what I can do in the meantime to help calm his cough so maybe he can eat something?

My goldfish (plural-4 in total) have all lived in harmony with my 2 tetra and 2 bottom feeders for about 2 years now. Yesterday I found one of them acting strangely, floating on his side, then swimming backwards, bumping into the side of the tank, etc. He died about an hour later. I assumed it was just his time. These are 2 year old feeder goldfish. Then later that evening another started doing it. It died this morning. And now yet another is starting. I have taken it from the tank to hopefully protect the other, but that one is being "fishy". The other fish in the tank are acting fine. The water was not changed recently (about 3 weeks ago) but is clean with new filter (changed it after second died). They have light and regular temputures, and food of course.
Is this mad fish disease?

I got a kitten for my nieces & nephew. I kept her 2 weeks before Xmas. I found out quickly that she was sick. She was congested, sneezing, and having a hard time breathing. Took her to the vet, and he said she had upper respiratory infection. She went home with my sister and kids....and has taken all of the antibiotics. She seems to have gotten a little better. But when she sneezes.......bloody snots come out. Why does she do this?? Any ideas on what can be wrong??

He knows how to use his pee pad, and goes there often. Also, I can never seem to catch him in the act. How do I break him of this?

I have a 55 gallon fish tank with gold fish in it. For some reason, one of my gold fish started to have black spots on it.Then as time went by, the entire fish was covered with black spots. It look as if black mold was growing on the fish.

I have a 3 mos old half retriever half poodle I am interested in training to hunt with me. I know people who hunt with this breed well. But do you know any way I can determine if my pup has bird hunting potential, if he would take to it? He retrieves a ball now consistently but I don't want to wast time training him unless he will in fact hunt well once trained. thanks.

My family has three cockatiels, all in the same cage in our living room. We have this big stick structure for them to play around on over top of their cage and they absolutely love it! But a few times a day, the cockatiels will either jump off because they get scared or they just simply want some attention from us. They've broken many of their tail feathers doing this. I guess my question is: Is there any way to make them stop jumping off and breaking feathers?

Just a random thought. I was watching my house cat assume her normal perch on the edge of my bed last night when I considered whether or not it was a "protective" position. My dog used to sleep in the same place and he definetly went into protection mode while I slept. I know that wild cats are more solotairy animals than dogs- with their pack mentality- yet I know that certain great cats do hunt and live in packs, for example lions. Would house cats have any of the similar pack mentality with their owners that dogs do? I wonder if there are any stories of normal house cats attacking people in "protection" of their owners?

I have this loud annoying bird behind my house, it is huge, all white same size and shape of a turkey but it's definitely not a turkey. small head with some decorative fuzzy feathers coming out the top of it. Anybody know? It's not a prarie chicken or grouse.

I have a friend who is basically a puppy mill. She breeds and breeds her dogs without care for their welfare and I want to find a legal way to shut her down. She doesn't make enough in a year to claim on taxes so I know she doesn't claim (makes around $7,000 per year). Her home isn't clean but I've seen worse be let go on Animal Cops. She's outside of the city limits (way out in the middle of nowhere with no electricity) so I don't think her having 16 dogs will make a difference. She breeds some of the worst quality dogs I've seen because she breeds anyone to whoever is in season. She never lets puppy buyers come to her place, always meets them in town "because the roads are so bad". Can anyone think of a way to shut her down? I live in North Idaho. I have several other people who want her shut down but they don't know what to do either. Please help.

While reading some responses to other questions, I've noticed a lot of people seem to think that young children are too young to have a dog. Why is this??? I had my dog before my son was born and I just can't imagine it any other way. They are THE best of friends and seeing the smile on my 2 year old son's face when he and our 3 year old pug are playing together or cuddling is the most precious thing in the world to me. I would never leave my son alone w/ "any" dog, regardless. As young as my son is, he is learning responsibility. He absorbs everything at this age so he knows how and why to feed our dog, let him outside to potty, etc. I know toddlers can be rough with dogs but I think those who are never exposed, and taught otherwise, are worse off than those with dogs. If you think young children shouldn't have dogs, please give me your reasons. I'm not trying to be narrow-minded, I'm anything but that, I just don't get it and want to know your views and opinions.
