My 1 yr. old red heeler has very dry skin. I bath him in shampoo for this problem and I have a hydrocortisone spray to help relieve the itchyness but he chews his back so bad that he will chew it raw. Anyone have any recommendations to help with this problem. Thanks

My lab Brandy is only about 9 months old..she has been found with epliepsy. It's apparently common in labs, but I've never seen any other dogs really go through with it. My vet says to pet her and comfort her, since she's scared which makes sense. I'd like to be able to hold her. But im afraid to move her when she passes out. Should I just put a blanket over her?
Im in Vet. Asst. at high school, and I know how to handle animals. But she acts diffrently when she passes out, so she's harder to control then any other dog I know. She gets jumpy and snaps....any suggestions?
thanks =]

oh for those who don't know what eplipsey is here you go:
**A transient seizure or fit usually associated with a short-lived disturbance of consciousness. It stems from a synchronous high-voltage electrical discharge from groups of neurones in the brain. The disorder takes several forms, which include loss of consciousness with generalized convulsions (grand mal), short periods of loss of consciousness

I have spoiled my dog even with crate training and treats, now i dont know how to get her to hold her 1 & 2. I think she does it just for the treat at times. When she was a pup (6 weeks old) the vet told me to get a kitty litter box and train her to use it. I am disabled and it is very hard to take her out all the time. The kitty litter box has worked well, too well i think though. Now she goes PP just to get a treat. I put her in a large crate at night along with a litter box and she does use it. By the way, she is a Shih Poo and only weighs 4lbs. She is also now 4 months old. I need to somehow get her to start to hold her PP mostly. She poops 2-3 times a day.
What is the best way to try and get her to learn to hold it. Unfortunately I have made life way too convenient for her and she has 3 places she can go PP. Lucky for me, she does use them 1 is in the crate, one is in the utility room, and the other is in the bedroom.where she has stayed once or twice. Not in the bed

Our dog had puppies 9 days ago. One puppy (originally not the runt) has now become the runt. He has only gained 1.4 ounces since birth. The others have all gained at least 3.5 ounces. There were 7 total. The mom is now carrying the runt in her mouth and taking him away from the litter. She walks around with him in her mouth and then just sits. She will then take him back to her "nest" but will leave him in her mouth. Is she hurting him or trying to help him? We keep taking him out of her mouth and putting him back with the rest but she just picks him up again.

Is there such a thing as obedience school or something of the sort that could actually help assist training for cats?

Seems a bit odd I know, but other than booklets, I was just wondering if there was something out there to make it easier to train my two kitties.

We have recently adopted a 14 week old dalmation puppy from a dalmation rescue organization. She and her 3 brothers were starved and denied adequate amounts of water. She is in good health now that she is with us, and is on her way to perfect health. There is just one thing however - she absolutely GULPS her water (probably out of fear that it is still in short supply, and she wants to get it while she can) and it results in horrible bloat. Last night her stomach was 20" around; she looked pregnant! It went down overnight, and its back to normal. But whenever she gulps water, it comes back.
Essentially - what is the best way to teach her that she doesn't need to gulp her water? I know how dangerous and life threatening bloat can be; and our vet is aware of it.
She won't eat ice cubes, and we tried giving her a large hamster bottle hanging from a chair to get her water, but she won't take to it. We're stuck between dehydration and bloat! Please help. Thanks!

My beloved dog just died last Wednesday. He was a great 10 year old poodle but quickly became very sick - so his death was unexpected. Part of me wants to get another dog right away. Part of me is exhausted and still morning. But part of me is also lonely for a new 4-legged companion. How soon is too soon to get a new dog? Or is it ever too soon?

Does anyone have more problems with a small cat vomiting more often after eating larger portions of food? My cat is five or six years old and is small for his age (must have been the runt of the litter) and it seems as though he will vomit if he eats more than a few morsals of food at a time.

My two dogs are one year apart in age. Frequently one dog always tries to bite the other dog's ears and on occasion the younger dog will yelp. Are they fighting or are they playing?

He is very little and was taken from his mother far too soon. He is lapping formula that we bought. We are mixing it with some canned food. Should I be concerned about anything with a puppy this young and little?

we just got a new kitten a couple of days ago and my older cat (that weighs 21 pounds) 'plays' with it. he follows the kitten around and then bites her on the neck. i don't think he is biting very hard, because the kitten does not squeal or anything, she just plays along. is this normal?

It happened yesterday. I was giving Bobby, my German
Sheppard his morning walk when he took off chasing Fluffy the neighbor's cat. He wasn't able to catch Fluffy but when I called Bobby back he kept running into things like the fire hydrant and a tree. Bobby couldn't find his way back to me, so I went after him and when I held his head up I notice that both his contact lens were gone. Bobby's optometrist (eye doctor) is out of town over the holidays so there no way I can replace them . Bobby seems to be miserable. Any help with this problem, would be very much appreciated.
