Is there such a thing as obedience school or something of the sort that could actually help assist training for cats?

Seems a bit odd I know, but other than booklets, I was just wondering if there was something out there to make it easier to train my two kitties.

Cat trainers are not common, although you can and do find them, I know of several depending on where you live. Cats can be trained, if you are used to dealing with dogs then be prepared to learn some patience; cat's are entirely different creatures and need to be lured and coaxed into behaviors. If your cat is food motivated it will be Much easier. Clicker training is also an excellent way of training cats. There are some great links below, deals some with training theory and cat learning as well as how to actually do the training.
A local dog trainer or vet may know someone with experience training cats. Also, the principles behind clicker training for cats and dogs is the same, a dog trainer may be able to help you learn how to clicker train and you can apply it to your cats.

I don't think there is such a thing as obedience school for cats. In many ways, they can be trained to do various activities, but obeying isn't one of them. ;)

Sorry! You more then likely are the obedience school. lol at myself. I have often wished for one. But cats are far from dogs. They can be taught to do tricks, but at a rate that is too slow for me. It's not because they are dumb. They are independent and stubborn. I learned a lot by reading about them and with years of experience. Good luck.

You can't train a cat-you can only influence it to do natural behaviors in a way that won't cause problems. After all, scratching, biting, hunting and spraying are natural for them.
I've had cats all my life and thought I understood them pretty well, but I recently got a book by Vicky Halls, a cat behavior therapist and it opened my eyes quite a lot. It's titled "How to Be a Cat Detective" and it addresses all the more common problems plus has a whole chapter on "training" a new kitten that is excellent. I highly recommend it for anyone who has a cat or cats.

cats are actually very trainable. you can train them to use a people toilet- no kidding. you can also train them to let you put a leash on them and walk them (my cat will let me do that). cats can and do learn.

but i don't know if there are schools or classes for them. i'd ask a pet trainer at your local petsmart or other pet store and see if they know of any. or start your own! :)

The old saying "Dogs have owners, cats have staff" applies here. Cats do what they want. You can get a reaction from them but basicly, unless the cat wants to do it, it won't. Good luck!

Generally speaking cats are not trainable. You might can teach them not to jump on the kitchen counter by putting scotch tape (sticky side up) on the counter. But when you remove the tape, the will try again....
