obviously I think animals can suffer, otherwise I wouldn't be vegan.i was asking for opinons, because some people don't think animals can suffer because they don't possess the intelligence to know they are alive, they say they are simply trying to survive,so they can't suffer because they don't know they exist.

Before anyone else goes on a moronic tirade, how about re-reading the question and realizing that an important part of being vegan is realizing that animals do suffer. He is asking for opinions, not because he doesn't know. Surely he would not forego meat or wear leather not he doesn't like the taste or feel, but because he is against the animal suffering that accompanies it. Please, before we shoot our mouths off, understand the context of the question.

Of course animals suffer and they have no problem showing it. So, let's expand that question to "Why do they suffer?", or even to the philosphical question, "Why does animal suffering exist?" This happens to be the one question that has never been answered to everyone's satisfaction. Some people call it ying/yang...good/bad...balance...that just like there is a finite amount of matter in the Universe, there is a finite amount of pain and pleasure.
The thing that distinguishes Man from all other animals, is that all other animals do not complain about their suffering.

Animals live, breathe and feel just like humans. They have emotions just like humans. They get sick just like humans. Think about a pet and all the the things they can feel: fear, loneliness, hunger, sickness, pain, sorrow, happiness, contentment, joy, excitement, sorry, pleasure, etc. Basically, anything with a central nervous system (brain and nerve system) can suffer.

I appears that you've never had a pet. Every living creature that has nerves feels. If a creature can feel, it can suffer. If you cut your finger, you hurt, same with animals.

Study an animal. See that they yawn, stretch, play, cry, get sick, get depressed, make you laugh, make you wonder, love, hate, protect, inspire, and a host of other things. Do not ever make them suffer as that is one of the most awful things a human is capable of. MERRY CHRISTMAS
