The best OTC dewormer by far is Safeguard. It is what my vet recommended and I think that it is the easiest to give (it is a pre-measured powder that you give for three days).

Also, you can usually get it at Petsmart, Petco, Walmart, and Target.

OTC dewormers are NOT a good choice, especially those made by Hartz. OTC dewormers are ineffective, a big waste of money and can be very dangerous for your dog.
In order to correctly and safely deworm you need to take a stool sample in to the vet & have a fecal test done..then the vet will prescribe the appropriate dewormer for the type(s) of worms your dog has and also for his weight/size.
Your dog will be fine until the vet office opens in a couple of days.

**** note**** even if your dog does have roundworms it is quite likely it has other type(s) as well.

Many of the over the counter dewormers are not very effective. You can get Pyrantel (strongid - name brand) over the counter (this is the same product your vet would use for roundworms. Just read the label and make sure that the active ingredient is Pyrantel and follow the instructions. I'm not sure what is in the Hartz, not sure if it is pyrantel or something else, check the label.

The OTC dewormers are not good, There are many different kinds of worms. You need to take your pup and a sample of his stool to the vet when he opens on Tuesday. The vet can determine what kind of worms your pup has and prescribe the proper dewormer.

HARTZ products SUCK!!! Do not use them.
You can use Nemex, gotten from the pet supply store. Follow the directions and know the weight of your dog and you will be in good shape as far as round and hooks go.

The best bet is to bring a poop sample to the vet when they open. The dog can wait until then!!!

Nemex is the pyrantel pamoate. Safeguard is a powder that you give for three days in a row. It is fenbendazole like Panacur. Also can be gotten at the pet supply store.

The over the counters aren't that good; but if the worm infestations is bad you can get one with Pyrantel pomoate in it; that is what is in the vet formulas (only theirs is stronger).

My vet finally told me to just buy the Pancur and safeguard; that they were the best OTC ones you can buy
