You are a saint and a goddess for rescuing dogs from the shelters!! <3 <3 <3
I've had dogs all my life, and when they cross that rainbow bridge, they leave holes in my heart. Those holes can never be filled by another dog, and that sadness and emptiness lingers in my life always. However, I've always try to focus on the joy my dogs have brought me, and not the sadness they left me with. That's how I cope with lost, and I try to move on with life, with that feeling in my heart.
I have never waited long to take in another dog or puppy though, because it's never about "replacing" the one that's left me, but more so about sharing my life with another.
I feel your grief...good luck!

I don't think it is ever too soon. That is as long as you understand that you are getting a different dog. Many people try to "replace" their beloved pet with another dog that looks similar to the one that they had lost. The problem with this is that they expect the new dog to act and behave like the lost one. Many times this will not be the case and they get disappointed. As long as you are willing to start again with training and the adjustment of a new dog in the house, you are ready for a new one.
p.s. Sorry about the death of your dog. I hope that if you choose to get another one, you consider saving one from your local pound.

It really doesn't matter when you get a new pup, it could be 2 months down the road or it could be right now. The point is, your dearly departed dog will always stay special in your heart and the new pup (if you ever want one, that is) is going to be special to you in other ways.
If you feel that getting a new pup will help you ease your pain of losing your poodle, then get one quick. At least, you are one dog owner I'd encourage to get another dog because I can tell that you are able to shower lots of love on lots of dogs.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is and I really know what you are going through.
gosh, that is a hard one. I just lost my two labs within about 6 months of each other, and in between that time I got another dog. I am very grateful I had my Diesel before my second dog passed away. It helped ease the pain and the heartache. I did not get another dog to replace the two I lost, I got another dog because I have such a love for dogs and can't see my life without few of in it. Diesel's parents just had another litter, so I am about to get my second one. No one can make that decision for you, you will know when it is time :)

Good, I rescue dogs too. And I think the best way to not grieve yourself into sickness is to always have two, but not the same age. Have always had two dobies, and as soon as one becomes so sick, or the vet suggested that to continue would only be prolonging the death process,
always got another. Sure, hon, get another right away--- you'll be so busy with your one, that your pain and tears will ebb....

I would wait just for a while then adopt a new dog to fill up that empty spot in your heart. Remember, that it will not be like your old dog, but give him/her time to get their personality. Having a new dog to soon will give you constance reminder of your old one, so first put your emotions in place before you adopt one. Pretty soon you will build up new memories with the new dog, but remember to always hold a special place for your beloved pet. Sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to loose a dog until now I still haven't found a dog like my old one.

It is never to soon to get a new dog. My dog was 15 when she died and that was over a year ago. I'm still sad but I have a cute puppy now who helps me through every thing. Only you know when it is the right time to get another dog.
God speed and good luck

it's never too soon, but most people like to wait...It's better to get a new pet if you already have another pet grieving. It's not healthy for them. Try animal shelters, you'd be surprised of all of the animals. Im sorry to hear about your pet =[ I know the feeling.
My Lady (13 yr. old cocker spaniel) died a month or so ago. It was most upsetting, I grew up with her since she was a puppy (Im 15)...my mom had the hardest time. She was actually driving her to the vet. in the morning, when my poor little buggy died next to her...so sad..=[

If you're ready for a dog (really ready), then it's never too soon. It's great that you're ready to love on another canine friend so soon after your first one's death. I know what you mean, I feel empty after a pet's death. But I think that, after Billie's gone, I'm not gonna want another rat besides Toby cuz Billie's the sweetest in her own personable way.
Anyway, happy puppy hunting!

Go to the pound and pick up your new doggie as soon as possible. A new dog always eases the pain of losing a furry family member. We always go to the pound for our dogs - they are the best and it's as if they understand you are rescuing them and appreciate you.
