Pets - 6 August 2006

We just boarded our dog for a week in a clean facility but noticed that she has the symptoms for Kennel Cough. Although she has been vaccinated for it... we still are unsure what we should do about it. She will be going to the vet tomorrow but from what I read online there's not much that can be done except letting it run it's course.

Any advice?

I have a garter snake and just two days ago his eyes were starting to become a milky color and I thought he was about to go through his shedding period but then after a day, his eyes went back to a clear and glossy look. Im so confused on whats going on. Can someone tell me if he is going to shed or something? I would like to handle him but then I read that when snakes are about to go through their shedding period, they can be agressive and unpredictable. Help please!

In our city they recently outlawed Pit Bulls and I had one. The animal control was coming to people's doors demanding that we give them our Pitt Bull. My husband didn't want them to kill her so he told them that we didn't have her anymore. Then when they left he dropped her off in a neighborhood on the other side of town. I felt so bad for her because she chased our car as we drove away. But our logic was that in our town she would have been euthanized. In the neighbooring state, she at least has a chance to find a home. What would you have done? She was really a good dog and our kids loved her. We are very sad wondering what other choice we had.

I'm a cat lover and I have 2 beautiful loving cats. they're my babies. in my own personal opinion I think that cats are way better than dogs. cats are low maintance, occupy themselves when were you're not home, DO NOT smell, aren't annoying, you don't have to walk them daily, and you don't have to give them baths. I love cats and I would choose a cat over a dog anyday. I just don't understand why people don't like cats! cats are sooooooooo much better than dogs!!!!!! what do you think?

Everyone is telling me not to get one, but I absolutely love pit bulls..
They only turn out to be mean if you train them poorly, right??
How do they get along with cats or other dogs?
are they ok left alone for 6-8 hrs a day 5 days a week(i'd come home for an hour in between, so no longer than 4 hrs at a time..)?
I have a 1000sq ft condo, would that be too small??
What kind of health problems do they have? Approx how much should I expect to spend on vet bills per month?

Any advice would be so helpful.. I really want to do a lot of research before I make a decision like this! Thanks so much!!

Ok well ive had the tank goin about 6-9 months, first i started out with two fantail goldfish and one normal sort of black fish, i saved from a pond that was getting emtyed. At first they were fine then bout a week later the black one died, so there was just two fantails in there, i decided to get them some friends so got about 6 feeder fish (the little ones) 2 days later there was only 1 left? couple of weeks later I got 5 more, 3 days later there was only 2 left, 1 was the original one from first batch, anyway everything was fine for ages, then one of the fantails started to lose his tail? It started to get really jagged etc. then he died, so anyway, I got a smaller white fantail and a black fantail with bubbly eyes the black one lasted 2 days, died, now My gold fantail is Loseing His tail and the little white one is biteing at it? and he's not eating...? what do people sugest I do? what is the best sort of medicine for them? Is it stress? From loseing his mate from the pond?

My cat was spayed two years ago at about age one year. She had previously had a few heat cycles, never was pregnant. It seems to me that soon after she was spayed, like within a couple of months, the fur on her stomach, from the middle of her stomach back toward her butt, got noticeably longer than all over the rest of her (domestic shorthair). It still is that way. It's not a problem, but I just wondered if that's a normal aging thing, or related to the spaying, or what?

OK ppl! My sister has gotten a cat recently. We share the same appartment. The kitty is loveable, but I have a very sensitive nose and that kitty seems to smell really bad, more than cats usually do. In fact, the whole appartment smells like cat and I cannot stand it any more. Any suggestions pls?

I found this snake an hour ago in my garden. I live in Mexico, semi desertic region in centyral part of the country (State of Queretaro) in a neighborhood in which houses are separated by large pieces of land, some of them with tall grass, rocks. The snake is about 3 feet long and a little bit more than an inch wide. It seems to have triangular or arrowhead shaped head, no rattle.
