I have had a lot of birds (mostly lorikeets and macaws) but never a sun conure. The only conure I've ever had was a Janday Conure. But I was going to get a sun conure one day and the petstore was dead out so that is when I got my Janday instead. He learned the popular song "Ball Game". I taught him to say Yankees but he stuck with hometeam instead. They are very dominant and have a mind of their own!!! Very loud birds and that is the reason I gave mine away. They can live for up to 20 years or more with good care and keeping. Keep on the upside and get one!

I know lots of people in my local bird club who have Sun Conures! They're great little birds fully of puppy like playfulness and they adore cuddling. They're known for bathing in people's soup bowls or tea cups, plus they have a brash personality that makes everyone pay attention to them when they start their strutting :) .
The down side is that they have a harsh call and are one of the number one birds to lose their homes due to screaming issues. However their noise can be reduced by training and not all birds are persistent pests. It depends on the bird, the way they were raised, how many birds you have and the birds' breeding.

I have never had a sun conure. In fact, never had any conure, below is a list of birds I've had before:
-Zebra Finch
-Malabar Parakeet
-Peachface Lovebird
-Cockatiel
-Princep African Grey
-Lilac Crowned Amazon
-Spectacled Parrotlet
-Lear's Macaw
-Gang Gang Cockatoo
I still have the Cockatoo and African Grey and Macaw but the rest sadly died (mostly the cats). The Amazon just died last month : (

I would NEVER buy a bird from a large retail chain! I have seen birds come from there with French Molt and Newcastles--they don't care who they get their birds from!
I would go to a specialty store or a private, reputable breeder.
That being said, I think that sunnies are the ultimate bird! They are playful but cuddly, beautiful and talkative. But they are loud. In fact, their scientific generic name--Aratinga--is a South American Indian word for "small macaw", and they are deffinately that! They love to crawl and hide under things, so at the bottom of her cage I put fresh paper towels and remove them in the morning.
Stil, If I were to live with ony one bird in my life, a sunny would be it.
