Believe it or not, a tail injury can be very very serious (life threatening). There are many large arteries, as well as cartiledge, etc., inthe tail. An injury in the tail (particularly a large cut) can be life threatening.

IF you cannot afford a vet, call the humane society and ask for help; call animal control, etc.

AT MINIMUM, please call the vet and ask.

I would say that it needs to go see it Vet. Any injury to an animal should be taken seriously no matter what. The first thing that came to my mind having to deal with a tail of a dog is a called a "Hot Spot", and it needs vet care.

A vet might splint it if it is broken or something in the middle or where a splint can be put. You probably will just need to let it heal. If it is a cut, I would only put some sort of an antibiotic salve on it and maybe some gauze but he may pull it off.

Do you mean "very hurt on his tail?" - is it like hanging off or something?

Take the dog to the vet and review your spelling!
