Pit Bull predjudice in my town?

Question

In our city they recently outlawed Pit Bulls and I had one. The animal control was coming to people's doors demanding that we give them our Pitt Bull. My husband didn't want them to kill her so he told them that we didn't have her anymore. Then when they left he dropped her off in a neighborhood on the other side of town. I felt so bad for her because she chased our car as we drove away. But our logic was that in our town she would have been euthanized. In the neighbooring state, she at least has a chance to find a home. What would you have done? She was really a good dog and our kids loved her. We are very sad wondering what other choice we had.

Ok thanks - I already feel like crap. My kids are sad too. We had to get rid of her. Our next door neighbor is a police officer and he kept telling on us. Illegal is illegal and yes if we would have turned her over to animal control they would have killed her. I live in Kansas City Kansas and here they are illegal. They used to not enforce the law but a few weeks ago a lady was killed by a pit bull so now they are cracking down.

How cruel of you. You should be arrested for endagering your animal and endangering everyone else in that neighborhood you just abandoned your dog by letting the pit bull loose!!

I really don't see what else you could do. It must have been so hard to give her up I know how heart broken I would be if I had to give up my dog. At least you know that you have given her the chance of life. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better but I know there isn't. If I was in your situation I would have done the same. I just can't believe all pit bulls are being treated as vicious. If we were to stereotype a human race in the same way we would be arrested.
looks like I misundersatood what you did. If your husband did just leave her in this other town then you are cruel evil people who don't deserve to have animals let alone children

What a stupid thing to do. Who will feed her? Where will she sleep? Where will she be safe? What if she gets hit by a car? What if someone mistreats her?

It's sad to say but if you thought of this don't you think other people in your town that have pits have probably thought of it too, and dumped their dogs in the same town.

What an assinine thing to do. To be perfectly honest, I'm sure this ban on pits just didn't happen overnight and you must have had time to try and place the dog before you came up with dumping her.

If you have any compassion in your heart, you'd go back and try to find her and do the right thing!

I would never have had one in the first place. A couple down the street had a pit for like 5 years and loved her/him and it mauled and killed their 4 mo. old baby. Of course their stock answer was that "the dog had always been loving pet and had never ever shown any meanness". They turn with no reason. There is a very good reason cities and communities are doing this. There have been too many horrible deaths from "the wonderful pet".

I'm biased, so don't take my comments too seriously.

I grew up in a neighborhood where 3 people on my street owned Pit Bulls. They basically terrorized all the kids that played on the street. 2 of my friends got bit, and we were afraid to go out sometimes. Even when they were tied up on the yard, we were so afraid that they would get loose.

I have no sympathy for Pit Bulls. They are like wild animals. You can raise them up to be nice, but they can snap at any time.

Im sorry for what happened but I think you should be proud and satisfied at the same time, that ,you saved a life of someone whom you and your kids loved so much. Dogs in general are very loyal and unconditional and I wouldnt agree to give away my pet for euthanizing just because a few people out there can't seem to learn how to look after and treat their pets.So the next best option is to atleast give it a life to live.
My congrats on your decision...a suggestion...get another pup to fill the void.

im so sorry. that is very sad to hear. i hope she is okay. maybe you could have sent her to a shelter in another town instead of leaving her in the street.. she could get hit by a car. or you could have put out an ad in the neighboring town to give her to another family..

pitt bulls are outlawed in my area too. but they dont enforce it as bad as other places. i think dogs are only as bad as their owners.. they should allow people to get permits to have them. that way owners that actually take care of their dogs can keep them, instead of being killed for no reason.

i am truly sorry, i hope your dog finds a good home as well. she will be in my thoughts.

At the very least you could have found a pit bull rescue group who would have come and taken her away.

There should be. Pitbulls are very dangerous dogs, people use them to fight with. Most pitbulls I know of attack people. Three of my cousins were attacked by Pitbulls. The anatomy of a Pitbull is not like that of an ordinary dog, their teeth were made for fighting and killing, that is what humans breed them for. You should have just handed the dog over. You did it more damage by throwing it by the side of the road.
