It happens mostly in captivity where animals who wouldn't normally live together do, and in very close quarters.
The main ones I've heard of are, like you said, horses and donkeys, and lions and tigers. However there was recently a discovery of a polar bear and, I think, a black bear. Strangely the bears were in the wild and as far as they know, no humans were involved in the strange mix.
Many people used to keep Husky/Wolf mixes, but both are very closely related and that's not very unusual. There are several places that have made these illegal though, due to speculation as to whether that is safe (Wolves can be more aggressive but are afraid of humans, mix in the domestication of a husky and they can become unpredictable).
I just did a quick search online and also found these:
Leopard x Lion
Zebra x Donkey
Camel x Llama
Domestic Cow x Bison (aka American Buffalo)
False Killer Whale x Dolphin
Zebra x Horse
Wild Cats x Domestic Cats
Some of these were one of a kind cases (at least so far) and most were in Zoos. Of course you also can't always trust the internet, but most sound very possible.

It's combinations. Is your spell check broken?
To produce offspring, animals have to be of the same or VERY closely related species. For example, lions and tigers can mate to produce ligons, but it's rare and always makes the news. A jackass and mare will produce a mule...but oddly enough, a stallion and jenny (female donkey) will produce something called a hinny, which is useless for anything. And the offspring of these matches are sterile.
There may be other examples but I can't think of any. As I said, it's uncommon.
