I am considering whitening my teeth. I've seen and heard about whitestrips, the brush/ paint on overnight stuff, and some others. I want to keep it fairly painless and affordable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Specifically, what brands or types work best?

Well, I'm deciding to get braces, and i don't know which ones to get. I'm entering high school next year, and which one would be better. Do the metal braces hurt more than the ceramic ones? Are they easier to clean?

I'm having oral surgery this friday, because I have gotten gingivitis on the back gum where my bottom wisdom tooth is suppose to be growing on both sides? I'm a little nervous and wanted to ask some questions? Will they do both sides on that one day? How will they numb it? How long is the surgery? After they remove the flap of gums, and when the numbness were off, will I be in a great deal of pain?

Not on my VERY front tooth, but a couple of teeth over...this one tooth in my mouth has become ultra sensitive to sweet things. Chocolate seems to set off this painful sensation. A girl scout cookie hurt it pretty bad today...and frosting hurts it too! DAMN! What is it? I'm also having trouble biting down all the way because on the left side of my mouth it feels like my jaw is...swollen or something! Anyone have any ideas? My mouth is usually in pretty good shape...except for a mutated molar that had to get pulled a few years ago.

Is there anyone out there who has found a home-made toothpaste that works better for them than store-bought toothpastes? If so, pls. include the recipe, and tell me why you like it better! Thanks!

I am not sure exactly what this is that i have...Ok,at first about a week ago my tooth started hurting and i developed a tooth ache *molar* then it developed into a big lump on my gum *its like under the tooth i guess u would say my jaw bone?* well anyways, the lump is very very sensitive to touc and hurts like hell..i cant eat on that side,it has been throbbing and its red..I was wondering does this sound like an abscess? if so does it sound like it is located on the jaw bone or gumline? and when will it rupture on its own? I been like this for 1 week...I have had an abscess before and it usually ruptures on its own...but this lump is hard and too swollen and hurts too much for me to touch...please help with advice on what i can do at home...

It wasn't bad the first couple days, but it seems like it's actually hurting a bit more the last couple days. Is it normal for it to hurt 5 days later? (I'm 49, if this matters...)

I went to a dentist to get 2 crowns. The dentist informed I would need a root canal. I didn't think anything of it and made the appointment. Today I was called and told that the specialist would be performing the root canal, and that it would cost A THOUSAND DOLLARS. Yes, that's right, 1k for a root canal. So I pleaded with the office, I can't afford that, can't the dentist do it and they said no. The crowns have already been ordered so I have to go back to that dentist and get them put in. The office said I could go somewhere else to do the root canal, but how can I pull that off? What dentist would be willing to do a root canal on someone else's temporary? Any suggestions? I can't afford 1000.00. Please help me. Please.

I wear a night guard/bite plane on the bottom at night. When I had my (two lower) wisdom teeth out today, I forgot to ask if it would be okay to wear it or not?

Sometimes my teeth almost hurt when I drink something to cold, or sometimes, my teeth hurt when I drink something at room temperature. Same with stuff like ice cream. Is there anything I could to make my teeth less sensitive? Suggestions are appreciated. (Although I don't expect many answers unless theres a professional dentist-answering group somewhere nearby)

toothpastes are sold in paste form and gel form...why is there that choice? Is one just suppose to be smoother than the other?

22/m here. The oral surgeon told me that I have need to have 3 impacted wisdom teeth extracted. During the procedure, he said he could give me either local anesthesia, light sedation, heavier sedation, or general anesthesia. I opted for general anesthesia because I'm really nervous about the effects of the sedatives and the thought of being "half conscious" makes me very uneasy. He then said only 5% of people choose that option and that I'd have to do the surgery at the hospital with a "Level 4" anesthesia and a breathing tube in my throat!! When I heard that I got even more nervous!! A breathing tube for a wisdom tooth extraction just seems like complete over kill to me and it's making me panic here. When I was in high school I had arthroscopic knee surgery and I was put to sleep but I didn't have a breathing tube in my throat (unless they didn't tell me about it). I thought it was going to be like that! I'm panicking here because now all my options are scaring me. Advice?

I know that I will have to have a decayed to removed or fixed, but I will need bonding and filling to other teeth. Do I use a cosmetic dentist or general dentist?
