Any suggestions to help this?

I have a tooth with a small hole in the back of it. It's not causing me any pain at all, but it's annoying becuase food is getting stuck..
The dentist is telling me that I need a root canal. How does the dentist decide if I need a root canal, instead of just a filling?

So I recently picked up the habit of flossing. I always brushed my teeth and scraped my tongue decently but every since i can remember flossing really hurt my gums... and I started to do it recently once a day.. now my gums are always inflamed and they hurt and I want to grind my teeth to make them feel better and I know it'll only make it worse.. what the HELL is this i'm experiencing and how do I make it stop.

are open bites really important to fix? my teeth don't close all the way in the front, but i don't really have any problems with it as far as i'm concerned. i had braces which closed them up compleately, but as soon as i got them off my teeth moved back to being open. i'm really scared cause i have to go to the orthodontist next week, and i'm nervous about what they're going to say.....

In the last few months I have started gridding my teeth when I sleep. I was just wondering if any one knows if the sleeping mouth gaurds you can buy in stores really help or not. Or is there another way to make myself quit? It doesn't bother me so much except my jaw is sore when I wake up but it wakes my boyfriend up during the night and I feel bad.

I just sterted noticing about 6 months ago. I start getting sick like I would get the flu, headacke, my eyes kinda feel hot, and I also have a sore throat. This last for about 3 days, just uncomfortable enough but it doesn't get really bad, or I should say the flu doesn't seem to develop to it's maximum. And now I realized that it's right before I get my period, could my immune system get too weak???
Please help, I'm reaaly tired of it. The period itself is already too much so having a sick feeling for 3 extra days really S&*^%^%&^!

My gums, particularly around the points, at which the teeth emerge, are constantly swollen. They bleed whenever I clean my teeth or use dental floss. Can you offer a solution to the problem?
