ok just wondering about wisdom teeth. do you actually need them out or can some people keep them? i have been to the dentist about 6 months ago as one of my teeth were coming through and i was in serious pain, i got xrays etc and i have three wisdom teeth that are coming through. basically she said to just get them out, but i don't want to if i don't have to!!! since that day i have never had any trouble iwth them. one of them is all the way through now and fine, and the other one is half way through, growing on an angle but doésn't seem to cause trouble. no sign of the other one yet.
have you kept yours? or know someone who does? why do we need them out anyway?

I used to grind my teeth as a child, and now I have sensitive teeth since the enamel is worn down. Yes, I now wear a mouth guard during the night, but I need to use a toothpaste to make my teeth less sensitive to food and drinks that are hot/cold.

I hate Sensodyne, because none of their flavors give me that refreshed, clean feeling of regular toothpastes. Are there any alternative brands with a better taste? Maybe one that has whitening as well?

....i'm only getting the novocaine shots. I'm really nervous. All but one of my wisdom teeth are still under my gums and the other is only half way out. That one is impacted. What can I expect when I go? Is it going to be really painful without being put to sleep or having the laughing gas?

Does it hurt when you get your braces taken off? I think it might because when I got one of the metal bands taken off it hurt A LOT and then when they took off ONE bracket it hurt too.

My 5yr old has black stains on her teeth that have to be cleaned off at the dentist. We are clean people, she brushes her teeth with a sonic toothbrush, but this has only improved things a little. Neither of her parents have these stains, and it's not due to water, we've moved and also now get bottled spring water. The dentist suggested it might be iron stains, but doesn't know for sure. Now my 7mo old is getting them on the backs of his first two teeth. Any ideas?

I brush her teeth and tongue, and she has no cavities, but her breath smells awful when she first gets up, and often times throughout the day. She is 2.5 years old. She has been to the dentist and he has suggested brushing more often, but it didn't help. Has anyone else had this problem?

My son needs to see a dentist. I do work but don't have insurance. The social services here are giving me the run-around and taking forever. There are a few clinics I have found but don't know how to check them out. Please help.

I just got my braces removed yesterday, first the top retainer didn't fit so my dentist sent it to the lab to have it redone, and I'm wearing the bottom one, but on one side, is hurting my gum reallllllly bad, I've been trying to handle the pain all day, but I just had to remove it, it's kinda going into my gum, is it normal??? and the problem is, I'm only going back to my dentist in 2 weeks, what should I do? I put the wax u know on it, I even filed the rough part with a nail file, but nothing is working...ohhhh and I also took 3 advils today.

Thanks :-(

Hi there, does dental health affect your overall physical health. I have a wisdom tooth that is a little smelly and is obviously impacted and it is hard to clean because of the angle of it. I have had it for approx 5 years. I am wondering if a low burning back pain could be caused from something like this? Thanks

A 12 yr old boy in MD died due to not having recieved Dental care in time to prevent the infection from going to his brain. The mom is on Medicaid and she works, but has no dental insurance offered - This was a needless and unneccessary death of a child due to not being to find a dentist and specialist that was willing to accept medicaid. So are dentist just in it for the money- or do they REALLY CARE about the work they do and the need that exists among the poor?

Hi. I just woke up with an issue in my jaw. I've had diagnosed TMJ for some time, and when I fully open my jaw, it "clicks" audibly. Anywho, I just dealt with a couple shoulder dislocations, which required surgery, and months of physical therapy, and that wasn't so bas as much as a time killer, but I've been paranoid about jaw dislocations ever since I learned about them. Why can't I open my mouth? If I try to open my mouth beyond a certain point (barely wide enough to speak properly), I feel a tightness in the left side of my jaw, up near the ear, where the jaw hinges in, and I can't open any further. Just a minute ago, I found it seemed to have loosened a bit, and I can open fully now. However, the jaw still feels somewhat unusual. I'm quite terrified now; what should I do? Do I make an appointment? What could this be? Before, when it was bad, I could open when I pressed hard on the joint with my fingers. Does that help? Anyone know what I can expect in the future? Thanks :(

i went to the dentist today to ask about my wisdom teeth, one is particularly hurting (which is going to have to be removed) which is also making my throat a bit sore and i cant open my mouth wide, he said it is not infected (i get this quite alot when theyre trying to push through) so why is so painful and what causes this pain???

If it is, what does it do? I have been told that it is bad, but I don't see why. I am a biology major (senior) and have had lots of chemistry. It doesn't seem to be that bad.
