My 5yr old has black stains on her teeth that have to be cleaned off at the dentist. We are clean people, she brushes her teeth with a sonic toothbrush, but this has only improved things a little. Neither of her parents have these stains, and it's not due to water, we've moved and also now get bottled spring water. The dentist suggested it might be iron stains, but doesn't know for sure. Now my 7mo old is getting them on the backs of his first two teeth. Any ideas?

My 4 year old niece has something similar to this. It almost looks like her teeth are rotten. I don't remember exactly what it is or what the facts are, but her dentist says it's a disease. After these black baby teeth fall out, her permanent teeth should be fine.

It could be iron. It also could be antibiotics. And there is a bacteria in the child's mouth ( a harmless one ) which causes black stains. No one knows why but that is the result. And when they become older it disappears. As long as it is not decay there is no need to worry. The only thing is that even if you brush well it still won't go. Only the dentist can remove it unfortunately.

oh i know that. That's a sign of tooth decay.

My 2 little brothers they're twins, started having blackish stains when they were three. BUT they are clean too.

When they reached 4, some of their teeth began to decay. it's like creating spaces.
