Hi,
I had mine out a week ago and the operation didnt hurt one bit! I was S****ing myself but was suprised at how little it didn't hurt.
They give u a drug in ur hand that makes u feel like u r really drunk and it sends u sort of asleep but still coherent enough to keep ur mouth open! Its good stuff apparently i kept asking to take some home cos it was better than vodka!! Although i can't remember saying that!
The problems for me have come afterwards, i have a really bad infection and ended up in hospital today after climbing the walls with the pain, i wasn't given any pain killers by my dentist so make sure u r just in case u get an infection!!! and if it hurts for more than a few days get it checked i waited untill monday b4 seeing the dentist again and by that time the infection was really bad!
Make sure u keep to fluids and soft food for a good few days after and rinse 4 times a day with salted water!
I know that even with all the words of dont worry on here u will still be scared but try not to worry too much u will be ok!!
Good luck Rx

I had an impacted wisdome tooth removed under a general anesthetic.
The anesthetic was fine. Just like drifting off into a wonderful light headed dream. Waking from it left me very thirsty.
What they didn't tell me was that there would still be some blood in my mouth after I woke. This was actually quite normal and harmless but it bothered me at the time.
Overall experience was much nicer than the tooth pain.

There is absolutely NOTHING to be scared from. It is true that extracting third molars requires surgical procedures but its so simple that it can be done in 10 minutes (when performed by an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon) even tho general dentists can perform it to, and that shows you that its a very simple procedure. There is no need for general anesthesia really, but if you're afraid from the local anesthesia then you can go for the general anesthesia. Its non-sense to be afraid from general anesthesia because you'll just fall asleep and wake up finding that your third molar has been extracted. Finally, just remember that almost ALL people go through the same thing and I wish you the best of luck :)

Trust me you'll be fine and you wont feel a thing.
I had all 4 of my wisdom's taken out and didn't feel a thing, apart from the really floaty feeling after having my pre-med.
They give you a pre-med before they take you down to the theatre and it makes you feel all nice and relaxed, once your at the chilled out stage they will administer the GA, when i had mine i was asked to count back from 10-1, think i got to about 8 before i was out for the count!
Once your under you will be monitored through out the procedure
, they are probably cutting through the bone/gum as the teeth are impacted and wisdom teeth are generally hard to teeth to reach as they are so far back.
Dissovable sutures are normally used to stitch the gums and normally dissolve after about 5 days or so.
For any discomfort after the procedure take your regular pain killers but avoid aspirins as these thin your blood and will encourage pre op bleeding.
Washing out with a small glass of warm salty water is also a good idea as it will wash out any food debris and will act as a antiseptic.
All in all you'll be fine, it's a minor procedure and you'll be in very safe hands.
Trust me, I'm a qualified/registered dental nurse!
Good luck my friend!

That's how they did mine. Believe me, it's MUCH better to be out cold for that procedure. I've heard horror stories from friends and family who only had novocaine or the gas instead of general anesthetic. You may be able to hear some of the procedure and you may feel some pressure, but if your oral surgeon and the anesthesiologist are good you'll be out before you know what hit you and you won't feel any pain. It'll hurt for a couple of days afterward, so make sure they give you a prescription for Tylenol 3 or Vicodin (go for the Vicodin -- it works better) and be prepared to eat soft stuff for a while. Good luck!

god love you! you have my full sympathy. I had them done about 10 years ago, so i know how you're feeling.
the general anestitic is fine. you litterally just fall asleep. can be quite a nice feeling. they will administer pain relief before bringing you back round again, so you won't be too aware of high pain levels.
i found that it was fairly managable. it sounds a whole lot worse than it actually is. the thing with wisdom teeth is that, they are so very sore prior to removal, that once they're gone, you're so relieved that a little bit of discomfort is worth it.
the discomfort was there for 3 or 4 days and it healed rapidly by gargling salt water.
good luck, i truely hope it goes well for you.

Having wisdom teeth extracted [as compared with having "regular" teeth pulled] is very invasive. The anesthesia involved is pretty comfortable, [i.e., no tubes down the throat, oxygen masks....] and usually given through an simple IV.
I totally sympathize with your fear, [I was in your predicament a few years back] but at least with anesthesia, you won't feel anything in the process. Believe me, you DON'T want to be awake during the extraction!
Good luck to you!

They had to do that to me too. Dont worry it was fine. A GA gives you the best sleep you have ever had, I was bruised for a while after but they give you painkillers and its fine.
