Hi. I just woke up with an issue in my jaw. I've had diagnosed TMJ for some time, and when I fully open my jaw, it "clicks" audibly. Anywho, I just dealt with a couple shoulder dislocations, which required surgery, and months of physical therapy, and that wasn't so bas as much as a time killer, but I've been paranoid about jaw dislocations ever since I learned about them. Why can't I open my mouth? If I try to open my mouth beyond a certain point (barely wide enough to speak properly), I feel a tightness in the left side of my jaw, up near the ear, where the jaw hinges in, and I can't open any further. Just a minute ago, I found it seemed to have loosened a bit, and I can open fully now. However, the jaw still feels somewhat unusual. I'm quite terrified now; what should I do? Do I make an appointment? What could this be? Before, when it was bad, I could open when I pressed hard on the joint with my fingers. Does that help? Anyone know what I can expect in the future? Thanks :(

I had a tetanus shot a few months ago, and another 3 years ago. Surely such a benign virus is not resistance to vaccines!

There could be numerous things going on here. It could be the fact that your wisdom teeth are impacted but the jaw being locked doesnt seem to go with that. If you have TMJ problems you need to seek someone who knows how to deal with dislocations and/or orthosis therapy to align your jaw in the proper position. If you feel a popping and clicking you more than likely have a jaw issue. New techniques in dentistry allow for more conservative measures than jaw surgery. Our office actually deals with this all the time. You can read information at L.V.I. Docs and read about the wonderful things available for you or you can go on our office website and read some things www.drvanslate.com I hope this kind helps.

I have the same thing. TMJ My jaw does that too sometimes. The best thing is to go get it checked out and see what ur dentist says. Hopefully in a couple of months Im getting my jaw fixed which means my jaw getting broken and put back in place and then getting it wired shut for 10 weeks and braces after that for two years

How old are you? I experienced something similar to that. It was when my back molars were coming in. I was about 21. One got infected, I don't know why. I had to get them removed. I couldn't open my mouth at all. It was so wierd. Maybe that's it?
