It is best if you can save any of the lower teeth. If they are in bad shape, consider root-canals if necessary and crowns.

The reason to save the lower teeth (as many as you can) is that when a person does not have any teeth in lower jaw, their body absorbs the bone. It is not gum recession, it is bone that your body aborbs. Especially someone with osteoporosis.

We do implants for our patients one or two will do a wonderful job of holding a lower denture in place.

Bottom dentures stay in better then top dentures. So if I had to choose, I would want bottom dentures and keep my top teeth.

Why are your bottom teeth disinegrating? Have you been to a dentist to find out what the problem is? Do you brush and floss your teeth at least once a day? Do you have peridontal disease and need some treatment? I would do everything I could to save my teeth before even considering dentures.

I have full dentures both upper and lower and have had very few problems. My dentist did a fantastic job of making sure the jaw bones were leveled properly so that there would be a flat and
solid base to sit on. You may get little pieces of bone coming
out for a little while, creeping thru the skin since he may not get all the tiny pieces out. Just make sure you ask that the bases
are level, both top and bottom! And when they get loose, get them relined. You should not really need any of the Poligrip or those type of products if they do it right up front.

I did work in health care & noted most peoples lower dentures never seemed to fit correctly. The gums recede and the bottoms clacked a lot. Many said they with they had gotton peg teeth instead.

I think the main concern is gum shrinkage . Hard to fit the lower denture plate because of it. Doesn't happen to everyone though. Some people don't have any problem wearing a lower denture plate.
