Just take the pain medicine BEFORE the Novocaine wears off. I waited til it was too late ..then it took another 30-45 mins for the pain med to take effect. Mine were impacted, which involves more work. Mine were also done local...and didn't feel anything !

I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out a few years ago - 2 on one side on one day, and then the other two a few weeks later.

I know it sounds daunting - I was quite scared because I've never had any dental work done before. I also had a local (they do this in most cases now) and I wont lie - when they inject the anaesthetic it is really quite painful. After that, though, it's fine - you can't feel anything. It's a bit uncomfortable while they stretch your mouth etc to remove the teeth, but thats all.

Afterwards, you just need to take it easy - your mouth will feel numb for a good few hours afterwards, and you need to be careful what you eat and drink so as not to bite or burn yourself.

The pain afterwards is easily relieved with paracetamol and for me it only lasted a couple of days. Don't eat any grainy foods or anything too spicy as this will sting like hell. Mostn of all, you need to keep the socket where the tooth was really clean. They'll give you advice at the dentist - but do the salty mouthwashes and just look after your mouth. If you smoke, it's best not to for a while afterwards to avoid infection.

It's nothing to be scared of, and heals really quickly. Afterwards you'll probably be thinking it was no big deal.

I had my wisdom tooth pulled a month ago with a local. It doesn't hurt as long as they use a good amount of local anesthetic. When it wore off I felt no pain but they gave me a prescrip. anyway. They put a gauze on it for a while so the blood clots and doesn't bleed. You should leave the gauze on for at least a half an hour. This makes it hard to talk to other people at this time so try to avoid it. Or write it down. And don't eat textured food for a couple of days, like hamburgers, steak, anything solid because it hurts and the bleeding will start again. Have soup but not to hot or anything to cold. I tried eating a hamburger once and I couldn't puncture the beef and literally ripped the burger to shreds. It was quite funny but it did hurt so I stuck to soup and sandwhiches for a couple of days.
I'm not a big fan of soup but I didn't have much choice. Chicken noodles your best bet. But like I said, not to hot. Good luck. Today I get my dentures, In fact I'm going there right now. I'll be back here in about an hour, ta ta. it's 1:31p Right now EST.

i had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled out yesterday + one extra tooth behind my front tooth, they gave me local anesthesia, believe me i was sleep for 3 hours and when i got up i asked my doctor when is she gonna perform the surgery, she said everyhting is done and i can leave now.i was surprised ,as i felt nothing. Its not that bad i was also scared to death. The only side effect so far is the swelling which i still have ,and very slight pain almost negligible .
just take good care for the first 24 hrs eat soft and cold food, lot of yogurt ,ice cream that helps to heel soon,no hot or solid stuff and use ice pack helps to decrease swellin..and take your medication.don't worry much i had 5 extraction,2 biopsy's and bone grafting also. But thankfully the doctor did a good job,its less then 24 hours since i went though the surgery but i am feeling good, just the swelling is making my face look like a pumpkin :-)
all the best and don't worry u wont feel a thing.

I've had 1 wisdom tooth removed and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, If you generally don't mind the dentist then it shouldn't be too bad, It can take a while to heal, maybe 2 or 3 days to stop bleeding depending on your own dental hygiene and whether you smoke or not.
Getting the tooth removed was quite painful for me but I didn't have much pain afterwards, just a dull ache for about a day.
Good luck.

I have had this done, and I guess I was not as lucky as some of these other people. I will agree with the person who said take your pain pills right when you get home, once the pain killers wear off, you're in a world of discomfort. If you make sure to keep up on your pain pills you will be fine. Also gargle with lots of warm salt water, it will help keep your mouth clean and also speed up the healing process. Go buy some frozen peas to help with the swelling. (The peas will "mold" around your face better then a frozen ice pack. ) Good luck!

Im 17 and i had it done when i was 15. Its not bad at all. It is mostly sore the first day and its still bleeding but after that all you have to so is eat soft foods and whatever you do DONT DRINK OUT OF A STRAW!! You could get a dry socket and that hurts like hell. You will be fine it takes awhile to heal but pain is not an issue GOOD LUCK

I have had this done, it should not hurt once your numb, you will be aware of some sensations, like the dentist tugging on the tooth but nothing else.
Afterwards just take normal pain killers, dont take aspirins as they thin your blood and will encourage the socket to bleed, also stay off any hot drinks as this will also encourage bleeding!

I also had local.
I only felt pressure, could not feel them extracting or pain at all.
I was hurting for a few days, nothing untolerable. They only gave me a jacked up ibuprorin. No loratabs or nothing.
Check to see what kind of pain pills they will issue after.
That helps. I took quit a few days off work, around thanksgiving and did not do thanksgiving.
An experience I will never forget, but very tolerable. I am so glad they are gone, they hurt soo much.
