Becoming a dentist is alot of hard work and dedication. If you are willing to devote yourself to this profession go for it!

There are a few down falls though(as in any profession). back aches due to poor posture, stress of running a business, and loan pay offs(school)!

There are alot of positives though! Self satisfaction and good money, are just the beginning!

I'm an assistant in Jersey.Look me up when you start your own practice!

Let me start by saying that dentistry is a wonderful profession. There aren't too many professions one can choose where helping other people means a paycheck for you. With that said, it is very difficult work. School is long and arduous. You must be able to integrate the latest medical and materials science with at least some artistic prowess. The job requires a high degree of intelligence, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to relate to any type of person that may sit in your chair. It has been very rewarding for me, but not without its growing pains. If I had to do it all over again, I believe that I would. In the U.S. many are choosing to apply to dental school over medical school in recent years. The dental profession still has control over itself rather than power lying in the hands of the insurance companies (both patient insurance and malpractice insurance) and it can be a more favorable lifestyle to many. Best of luck with your decision. I would recommend spending some time in several different offices as an observer prior to making any decisions however.

PS: What Vincent said is wrong. That is one of the most inaccurate myths propagated by people who don't know what they are talking about. Dentists have the same suicide rate of any of the healthcare professionals. CAUCASIAN MALES have the highest "complete" suicide rate of any group in the world, although females ATTEMPT suicide more often. Because the VAST majority of dentists fall into the category that is most likely to commit suicide REGARDLESS OF PROFESSION, it has been historically easy to lump them into that made-up category Vincent is talking about.

dentistry is a noble profession.it depends on how much skill you developed and the way you apply to people to relieve them.
if u have decided to be a dentist,i welcome u to the road to humanity.worst thing is-if u only sell it to patients.

Dentists have had the highest rate of suicide over many years due to the fact that all they hear is complaining by patients.

Good money though , and if you enjoy other people's pain , you probably won't get depressed.
