My teeth started having nerve pain to the point where I had a root canal done last year. Now the same pain is back in the tooth next to it, but the dentist says the tooth is healthy and not damaged, though there is evidence of grinding and clenching. I figure this can cause muscle pain, but nerve pain??

Ok I was eating almonds, and all of a sudden I realized that there was something poking against my cheek. I looked in the mirror and one of the wires in my braces were poking out?!?!

Did it break or did it slip out? Nothing fell off, but the rubber band is a little off.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting mine out on Wednesday in the morning and I'm just wondering how long the anastesia usually lasts and how long you are groggy and how long your cheeks and gums are sore.

Two years ago, against my better judgement, I was talked into removing all my teeth by a cut-rate dentest who wanted to make money from me. Since that time I have been complety miserable and can't tolerate the plastic false teeth. My speech has changed (I'm an actor), I can't eat anything, let alone chew. Food gets between the dentures and my gums. Am losing weight and look terrible as I never wear them. They hurt! Am too poor to afford implants and my self-esteem is shot. ANY ideas? Thanks.

I had half of a root canal on Thursday. I wanted to try to beat the infection on my own, but the pain became worse. I gave in and started taking antiobiotics on Saturday night. It's now Sunday afternoon. It doesn't seem to be getting better. Actually the pain seems a little worse. It's more difficult to talk (it's my front tooth) and eat, even swallow. I never realized that my tongue pushed on my front teeth when I swallow before this happened. I've had a lot of pain in my mouth for well over a week now. I'm pretty tired of it. It's a sickening kind of pain in the front of one's mouth. Especially with an infection, because it causes the rest of your teeth to hurt too. How long before the antibiotics start to work? I can't take this anymore.

Before you flame, lets be reasonable here. We live in a society where you can get contacts and/or glasses cut in an hour or less. Where your eyes can be lasik'd for $750. Bones can be put into a sling and cast for $250. I recently had a surgery to fuse a disc in my neck which, after insurance, I paid a total of $75. $75!

These are teeth. Crowns, root canals, fillings, plates... ceramic and plastic. This is not a complicated process, folks. Yet since the pain can be worse than having a vertebrae fused, dentists know you will pay whatever it costs. It truly is ridiculous what they charge. And dental "insurance"...isnt.

It sometimes can cost less to fix your car than to get a root canal. Cheaper to fly to Las Vegas from NY than to get a crown put on. And forget serious dental issues. I can get an XRay of my back for damn near nothing, but $80 for XRays of my teeth?? Comeon...Yeah. They "care".

What are some natural alternatives for preventing tooth decay? Besides the obvious, brushing and flossing.

Can you get away with not flossing when you use a Sonicare toothbrush and an antiseptic mouthwash such as Listerine?
