you should be taking all your antibotics, it should take at least 24-48 hrs, unless you doubled up in your first dose. you should also take Advil as it is a anti inflammatiory and this will also help. Did the dentist place a temp filling in the tooth? a "gummy" type ?? there maybe a pressure build up , it can be removed by poking with a pin and pulling it out, this is only if it is cavit, which is normally placed by a dentist if the root canal is not finished. Make sure you call your dentist 1st thing Monday mrning and let them know of the pain.

2-3 days is the norm, for antibotics to start kicking in... sorry, to say!
One thing, i will ask is.. has the infection surfaced? Meaning, has the 'pus pocket' surfaced and is noticable on your gum. If so... pop it, with a needle of something. Let it drain out, and it will also relieve some of the pain. Other than that, your meds should be kicking in around the Monday night or Tuesday morning. Meantime, take some Ibuprofen for the inflammation and pain relief. Thats all the pain meds you really need.
*You dont need a pain killer (other than.. over-the-counter) .. BECAUSE.. You have an infection, NOT an injury! The antibotic will stop the pain, once the infection is controlled. Your in the pain, because of the infection. Focus on the infection and taking your meds.. you'll be back to normal in no time.
** Get that Root Canal finished, as soon as possible.. so the infection doesnt come back. Until its finished, it can come back!!

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Not fun, to say the least. Unfortunately, with my own experience, it could take about 3 days after the start of the antibiotics before you start feeling relief. I've had 2 separate abcessed teeth in my life and that's what it took.

2-3 days after you started taking them. And take all of your antibiotics to make sure the infection goes away.

2-3 days. If you are having increasing pain and being swollen you might need to go to the ER.

Antibiotics are for infection, you need a pain killer. Ask your dentist, he'll give you a perscription for pain.
