ummm idk about the pulling your teeth part...that sounds like its gonna hurt. I had them like 3 years ago and i only got them on for one year. But they really hurt the first day...like you need to take advil or somthing to cool down the pain...the second day...they don't hurt as much but they still really hurt...i recommend that you eat liquids and stuff like soup and really soft stuff...the 3rd day isn't really that much pain...i gets less day by day but i think you can eat stuff...but not like hard stuff...like chips. This is what happened to me and other ppl said they didn't hurt but i m just telling you from my point of view.
Thanx

I had braces for seven years. They hurt at first, but you get used to them (honest!). The only time they cause pain is when they switch the wire that goes across the teeth. It is painful because different sizes cause different types of pressure. Also, some people get open sores in their inner lips from when the braces rub against the skin.
To solve both problems, Ibuprofen (Advil) is the best [three 200mg tablets to stop the swelling - but don't take anything until talking to your parent and/or doctor first)]
The dentist will also give you wax to put over the braces when you're home. The wax smooths over the wires temporally so it doesn't irritate you until your mouth is used to it.
It can be sometimes (only sometimes)it can be painful to eat. To ease the pain, stick to soft foods like apple sauce, pudding, ice cream and the like. Some people I know eat baby food as well until their mouth feels better.
You'll have to give up extremely hard, sticky, and high sugar foods. These foods can get caught on the braces, bend wires, loosen cement and pull the braces off and/or cause cavities and permanent white marks.(Not to mention another trip to the dentist!)
Good luck!

I had to get 4 teeth pulled before my braces...
the only thing that hurts about braces is when they tighten the wire whenever you go visit. because your teeth are being pulled and the constant pressure on your teeth makes them feel very sore for about 1-2wks.
whenever they tighted the wires on my braces, i couldn't chew any food for about 1-2 wks. and just touching your teeth makes them hurt for the first week, i would get head aches from the pain, but after a week or so they don't hurt at all. not one little bit, you get very used to the feeling and i only got my wires tighted about every 6 months if i remember correctly...
i just filled up on applesauce and ice cream during those couple weeks after vising the orthodontist...
and your smile afterwards is priceless =)
oh, p.s.
after you get your braces off, some words of advice, wear your retainers!!! i stopped wearing them because they were a hassel, well now they don't fit anymore around my teeth because the gap between my two front teeth is back! oops! it's not nearly as bad as it was before but i still wish i would've worn my retainers!!!!

Im getting braces in 2 weeks but I asked my friends and they all said it only hurts for the first week or 2. As for the pulled teeth part, my siter has had teeth pulled and she said it hurts really bad. So good luck with that part.

It matters what kind of braces you use. Old fashioned braces will hurt a lot of the time. However, if you get modern braces, they will not hurt except when they are first put in or when your braces are tightened.
i have just put ceramic brace and had to pull 4 teeth. the first week it was really pain while eating something during when the archwire was tight. after that period when u r used to it, it will be no more a problem.
now i dont have any problem with my braces. so have enjoy with braces

I had them for two years. I wouldn't say they specifically HURT, but whenever you get them tightened your mouth will be sore/achy from the pressure.
And remember to try not to eat anything you shouldn't. One time I thought I'd go ahead and have one Starburst candy...figured I'd just be careful. But, of course, I accidentally popped off one of the bands that was basically cemented to (around) my back molars! LOL (That surprisingly felt like nothing.)
Getting teeth out is scary, but when I had my wisdoms removed (because I had had the braces and they didn't want them possibly ruining the new alignment) it was scary but not as bad as expected. The time to recuperate later at home sucked more, but after that my mouth was just tender for a week or so.
P.S. After reading what the poster above me said... Get yourself some Anbesol or whatever tube of stuff like it that people use to numb places in their mouth. When you first get them your tongue and any place the inside of your mouth touches the braces, a few spots may feel rubbed raw for a bit. The stuff to numb it will help.

getting braces doesn't hurt. It only hurts when they tighten them. they only glue them 2 your teeth but they tighten the wire. 2 years is the average time people have them on for. getting teeth pulled hurts for about a week afterward. make sure you get put asleep and have them taken out all at once b/c its alot easier. you won't feel as much pain from the meds prescribed. its all worth it. good luck.

6 teeth? what have you've been munching on lately? my sister has braces, she says the first two weeks it hurts, especially the first day. You cant hardly eat, drink, chew, or move your mouth. Oh she said when she yawned she cried. she had to eat soggy porridge and oatmeal for that first week. When she tried to drink or eat the food just drip down. After a while it was better but her jaw was still numb.
I think your case will be 4x worse. Good luck and I mean it.

They are awful. They hurt. It is a liveable pain though. When they first go on they feel fine then a few hours later they will start to hurt bad. Then you will get used to them and be fine again but then you have to keep going back to the orthodontist to get them tightened and then they hurt again. It is an ongoing process. You will live through it.

In the begining of braces, it is alittle sore and maybe sometimes irritating but after abit it isn't bad. But not all people think it hurts at all! Maybe they just don't want to ADMIT it..............
