My friend told me that chewing too much gum is bad for a person because it tricks one's brain into thinking that the person is eating something; thus the brain get the digestive system going and the stomach acids pumping, which is bad because that person really isn't eating anything.

Regardless if this is true or not, I've heard many other scenarios like this one where one somehow "tricks his/her brain". My question is, how is this trickery even possible? If YOU know that you aren't eating anything, how is it possible to trick your brain, which is essentially you, into thinking that you are. If you know something, shouldn't your brain know it too?

I take Inderal long acting 80 mg 1 time per day. My BP still runs a little high. My cardiologist prescribed Cozaar 50 mg in addition. Just wondering if anyone taking Inderal or propranolol (generic for Inderal) has taken this combo and how they did? Any side effects?

Pls help! At dinner tonight, I dished my 8 yo daughter up a plate of spaghetti. I put it on the counter & she came to get her plate. As she grabbed it, the hot spaghetti fell off her plate, into her eye, down her face and all over her chest. She started screaming & I grabbed her, took her into the bathroom and started splashing cold water on her face & soaked her down w/wet towels. There was no burns to her chest. I got some ice and wrapped it in paper towel for her eye & noticed the skin on her eyelid and below her eye was peeling off. We raced her to the closest clinic who said they didn't know what to do and to take her to the Children's Hospital (on the other side of the city) So we did. They doped her up on codeine as soon as we arrived and we waited forever. The doc told us to put polysporin on it and sent us home...but she is in so much pain it's killing me! They didn't even bandage her eye! Her eye sight is OK, but I wonder what else I can do for the burn...pls help

Hi,
Recently I was rushed to the emergency room because I was unconcious, my breathing was very shallow and my blood pressure and heart rate were starting to drop dramatically, the paramedic said when we neared the hospital I started to "crash" so they called ahead to recuss..
Once in recuss it took them 3 hours to stabilise me to a stable but critical condition and I was in intensive care unit in a coma on life support with a nasal gastric tube in and a cathather..

Everyone is saying I came very close to death because I went into respiratory arrest but I just can't seem to believe them, I view near death as when a person needs to be defibrillated and their heart stops beating and what not..

Is what I went through close to death?

I'm 16 years old. I've had sex with three different guys. All of them happen to be clean. We didn't use condoms while having sex. A week before my period my vagina starts to itch and i get these discharges which are cottage-cheese like. I do not normally have these kinds of discharges. I washed my genital area with warm water and feminine wash. My itching and discharge have gone away. I've recently had my period. It's been two weeks since i've had those discharges. Did i contract any kind of STD? pls. help!

I have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. The doctor gave me some celebrex but I never took them because my symptoms went away for a while. But now they're back and my butt has really been hurting. The pills have quite a list of side effects. Should I start taking them? I'm a 19 year old male. If you have taken celebrex, what side effects have you experienced?

The boil is located on my lower right back/upper butt cheek. It looks a little infected, It doesn't hurt when I touch it either. I am thinking it may be from an infected hair follicle but with the outbreak of MRSA I thought I should check and see what some one else thinks.

I got a Brazilian wax two months ago. The lady didnt't use gloves, used her fingernails to peel off the hot wax, touched my labia with her fingers, and put her hand on my skin which was bleeding at the time. Two weeks later I got a yeast infection, which I got treated with a single pill (from the gyno). Now (about a month and a half later) I have another yeast infection, along with other symptoms of acute HIV such as sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and slight fever, headaches, and muscle/joint pain. I got tested for HIV a month after the waxing incident and came back negative. I have to wait another two months to get accurate results back. My question is this: are recurrent yeast infections that don't respond to single dose medications a common symptom in acute or early staged of HIV? I'm really freaking out
