I have a friend whose blood pressure when recorded early in the mornings is higher (systolic 140-150 mm) but as the day goes by, it settles down to 120 - 130 mm. Any explanations please?

Its almost certainly just part of the normal diurnal variation of blood pressure that we all have.

If by early in the morning you mean first thing after getting out of bed then its quite common for this to happen.

Your body gives a big surge of adrenaline and cortisol when you wake up from sleep as its way of jolting you into action.
This can lead to a big sudden rise in blood pressure. 140 to 150 is a little on the high side but not high enough to cause any major concern.

If in doubt check it out with your doctor but theres nothing too unusual in what you describe

Hi there !
Very simple...
Some factors of the human body, like Blood sugar, Blood Haemoglobin, Pulse rate, Blood Pressure will show diurnal variations depending on our mood, emotions, mental status, and other activities.
okay ? relax...
For Blood Pressure, early morning values are accepted to be reliable as our mind is very calm and fresh at the start of the day.
best wishes !

Better consult a good ayurvedic doctor who can check the tridosha balance of your friend. There is adoctor in Pune who has done research on ayrveda and coronary artery disease since 1993 and invented some remedy for this type of complaints.

Blood pressure, like blood sugar, is always high in the morning. That's why when you are on BP lowering meds, it's best to take them in the morning.
