I don't always eat soy or beans for protein so I often use portabella mushrooms as my protein source. Mushrooms are a protein source right? If not, what are they a good source of?

Is it true that the oil used to fry food in fast food restaurants such as BurgerKing and McDonald is animal oil and made out of animal fat? Because it's cheaper!!!

lentils= cheap
beans=cheap
nuts=cheap
most veggies=cheap
bread=cheap
pasta=cheap
tofu=cheap( like 1.50 per pack)
mushrooms(button)=cheap
granola/oatmeal=cheap
rice=usually cheap unless it's a special grain like forbidden or sushi rice

steak=mad expensive
salmon=often more expensive than steak
ham=expensive
cold cuts= cheap but poor quality anyway
chicken=more or less expensive but still costs more than vegetarian options

real spiel:animal imitations and specialty items are expensive

vegan cookies(one cookie is about 2 dollars)
non dairy spread( It is a bit pricy but it's really good)
seitan/tofu( if it's marinated or something)
veggie burgers
veggie dogs
veggie nuggets
veggie bacon
veggie meat substitute
soymilk(it's still worth it tho)
non dairy ice cream(I buy it on occasion and it tastesjust like the real thing)

anything in a box is $$

So does anyone think that vegetarianism is costly?
or do you just spend alot on special items?

I went to Whole Foods and got some veggie hot dogs, ham, and chicken. They were absolutely horrible!!!!!!!! Where did I go wrong? There were also some pre-made tofu that I was too scared to try. There was a lemon seasonings one, and some other flavors. What do some of you fill your grocery baskets with? What do you make?

I guess this isn't really a question, but I'm really getting sick of people who have too much time on their hands, and they decide to look through the vegetarian questions and leave rude remarks. Why would you judge someone for the harmless and personal decisions that they make? Do you really care what we put into our bodies? We know what we are doing and why we are doing it, and to us we are passionate, and strongly believe our decision to become vegetarians. Are these the people who hate homosexuals? Are these the people that hate minorities? If someone chooses to live differently than you regardless of their reasoning, why belittle them, and disrespect them?

I'm never really been the kind of vegetarian who preaches to people about what I believe in or why

My parents always were meat eaters.When I became one entirely and told my parents who I were no longer living with at the time I could no longer eat meat,they thought it was a little strange at first.They became used to it,and started finding different foods to make while I was at the house.When they asked why I no longer ate meat I told them things like that I didn't agree with the way animals were raised,or I thought it was a simpler way to live,or I thought it was healthier

Earlier today they took me out to eat,and my father started talking about how he's been reading about vegetarians being healthier.Lower rates of obesity,heart disease,cholesterol, less likely to get cancer,better immune system,longer life span,etc

Anyone else have any experience like this?Where people you've never preached to began giving you positive reasons to be a vegetarian they learned about on their own?

Okay so it's my first week without any meat, and I really want to stick with it so far no cravings for meat it actually disgusts me now. I am starting each day with a soy protein shake for breakfast and I have cashews or peanuts with yogurt with my lunch or a snack. Any other tips for foods with proteins or other nutrients I need?? Wish me luck!
