No! Cats or any felines must eat flesh to survive. They are carnivorous made that way by nature. Just like deers are vegetarians by nature. It's that way in the jungle otherwise what purpose would lions, cheetahs and leopard serve if they don't eat meat?

Wrong. Cats cannot survive without taurine. Until recently taurine could only be found in meat. However, it has now been successfully synthesised and perfectly acceptable and tasty vegetarian cat food is now available.
For the benefit of people who think that a veggie diet is not natural for a cat, please stop and consider how completely unnatural it is for a cat to eat the rubbish that goes into tinned cat food. Yes, in the wild they would eat mice and birds etc. Do you find mouse and bird flavoured tinned cat food? No, it's beef and tuna and chicken flavoured! And a lot of is just that. Flavouring. And ash. And scrapings off the floor. Now if you can find me any cat that has naturally killed and eaten a cow, then I'll agree that beef is a natural food for a cat.
My beautiful cat is doing very well on her vegetarian diet, thank you very much. Her eyes are bright, her fur is shiny, her weight is stable, and she has the energy of a kitten, despite being 3 years old, having spent 5 months in a shed at a shelter, and having a neurological problem which causes her back legs to be weak. Everything about her has improved since starting her on the vegetarian food.

The taurine is supplemented in many catfoods, not just the vegetarian ones.

Taurine isn't the problem. A synthetic source is readily available. You're completely wrong about the missing protein being the problem.

While it can be done, it requires a lot of effort to do successfully (though less for female cats) and is not recommended.

There are some healthy vegan cats (most of them female), but their guardians are diligent in tracking their health and monitoring the pH of the urine. Male cats are prone to urinary tract blockages.

Cats do not "do fine" on a vegetarian diet. Cats are obligate meat eaters and can not be put on a vegetarian diet. For vegetarians who want a vegetarian pet, try a rabbit. They are fun, sociable, and can be litter box trained. You need to be more patient with them as you socialize them, and they'll never become like cats, but that's the point - to have a unique pet.

Cats need taurine that is found in meat otherwise they could loose eyesight and have other health problems. Although veg cat food tends to be supplemented with taurine (which is found in various different foods). Dogs do not need this as they can synthesize it.

I don't know about not surviving but it's not healthy for them..they are carnivores. Most responsible pet owners (including vegetarian pet owners) know this and feed their cats properly so why are you making this statement here in this section? (without using spell check I might add)

of course they cant, they are carnivores. Look at their teeth-they have a mouthful of razor sharp canine teeth. Humans have two tiny incisors and the rest of our teeth are flat, like other vegetarian creatures. Humans can thrive on a plant based diet, but animals with a mouthful of canine teeth, such as cats, are meant to eat meat.
