Some brands are good and some are not as good.
Depends on which store, but at an Asian grocery I pick up rice (white and brown)/noodles (spaghetti, white noodle, wheat, mung bean), vegetables (frozen/canned/fresh), firm/soft/ or silken tofu and marinated tofu. Also frozen veggie buns. With this I usually make stir fry with tofu and vegetables.
At other stores I get lots of vegetables, fruits, some deserts and things to drink.

No all meat-alternatives are created equally. I agree. Some are absolutely HORRIBLE! I actually have not found a veggie hot dog that I like. Bocca makes a nice veggie bratwurst, Morning Star Farms makes really good chicken nuggets, though if you are still interested in trying.
I only buy that stuff every now and then. Normally, I purchase a lot of black beans, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, high-fibre cereals, and brown rice.
I try to steer clear of processed foods in general - vegetarian or not. They are hard for your body to digest. I don't eat a lot of pasta or breadstuffs. I hope that helps you and good luck!

the yves veggie dogs are the most like real dogs, but maybe not enough for you. (I like Tofupups but my roomie says they are a little too soft). I ended up making a large amount of fake meat on my own: tofu jerky, wheat bulgar sausages are awesome, mushroom pate is good to make sandwiches with instead of "ham", i would make tofu turkey recipes in smaller batches and shape them into fun things and bake them for dinners, or try portabella mushroom fajitas with onions and peppers.
words of advice:
1. learn to cook
2. buy the firmest tofu possible (wildwood, or nigiri tofu)
3. get a good food processor
artifical bacon bits can be vegan, read the label. then make a BLT with the bits.

As a vegetarian myself I usually fill my basket with nice healthy goods. I always buy some cauldron tofu, [i think it's the best brand out there], some sushi rice always comes in handy, free range eggs for omelettes. I've never tried those vegetarian meat substitutes..they are usually full of additives and aren't that appealing to me!
If you want some easy vegetarian solutions, check out the ready made pasta bakes, or just packets of fresh pasta and tubs of sauces (there are always lots of delicious veg ones), as well as mexican bean burgers and delicious goats cheese and med veg tartlets.
As a side dish it is nice to have baked sweet potato to eat with a little butter and salt, it goes with most dishes, so i always throw a few in my basket.
I always make sure that i buy a packet of crackers, some nice cheeses and some red grapes, so that i can make a quick cheeseboard if i want a filling snack.
It's always nice to have some pears and berries avaliable after dinner, I like to cook chopped pears gently in caster sugar with raspberries until they ooze their juices and serve as desert.
Try your local deli..there are always exciting new foods to try..i tend to buy sweet pastries, vegetarian tarts, olives, vegetarian quiches as well as vegetarian scotch eggs.
To get the best vegetarian food to suit your needs you will need to shop around..try health food shops too, they often surprise you!

Beans beans beans and beans galore.
They usually taste really good.
As long as you don't get ones with pork in them.
When you go for meat replacements... you want to put them in something to mask it.
Pluuuuus. You're better off marinating your own tofu than the pre-done stuff

Bags of different frozen vegetables, perogies (potato and onion or cheddar), black beans, garbanzo beans, pinto beans, extra firm tofu (plain, not pre-anything), Morningstar burgers and buffalo "wings", canned fruits, spinach, bags of salad, tortillas, enchilada sauce, peppers, onions, garlic, rice milk, cereal, and I like Tofu Pups and Morningstar's veggie dogs. They are good if you load it with toppings like onion, pickle, mustard, jalapenos, etc. make cole slaw to go with them....and get a bag of frozen steak fries! mmmm.

Why do you flow to the food market at midnite for 2 or 3 issues? have been given a severe case of the munchies huh? end hitting the bong so previous due at night. human beings save at night for numerous motives. perhaps they artwork a distinctive shift or maybe they like the reality they dont would desire to attend to crowds. in case you elect that bag of chips and the two liter of mountain dew so badly at that element, try 7-11.

Why exactly would you become a vegetarian and want to purchase veggie version of meat products?! They are not necessary any better for you ( if that is indeed the reason you became vegetarian). If that is what your going to choose to purchase I would say try TVP (textured vegetable protein) and MorningStar Farms products as they tend to have a better taste.
