Which one is healthier/better for you? Which one tastes better? Any brand recommendations?

I used to drink Silk Soy milk. It was good - I especially liked the vanilla flavored for cereal.
I now drink Rice Dream Rice Milk and I love it. I drank skim (cow's) milk before I became a veggie and the rice milk's consistency is very similar to skim. It also comes in plain and vanilla.
To me, they both taste good and it's just a matter of personal choice.
I'm not sure which one is better, per se. You would probably just have to read the labels and compare. It's like comparing goat's milk to cow's milk - they come from different sources, so it's kinda difficult.

I drink soy, but also use rice milk in baking. Rice milk, for me, is a little to sweet to drink, although, because my son has allergy to dairy and soy(lactose and protein) when my grandsons were weaned the doctor recommended they have rice milk until older, and then try them on soy. Lactose intolerance is high in our family, 2 out of 3. As for brands, we in Australia have lots to choose from in soy,(many differing tastes and textures), but only a few rice milks. I use Rice Dream, but only buy Aussie brand ngm. Try many and go by your taste buds. Fortified products with added calcium are better if you don't get enough in your daily diet.

I LOVE rice milk.... I drink regular "rice dream" milk. It's really good. I like it better than soy milk, but I don't know anything about which is healthier...

Since the two offer entirely different nutrients (one comes from a bean, one comes from a grain) - you can't exactly say one is better than the other.

Unless there is an allergy involved.

I make my own soy and rice milks. I have a machine. It's fantastic. I learned of the benefits of barley so I always add some barley to my soy beans when I make soy milk. As well as to my rice when I make rice milk.

It is always good to vary your sources of nutrients.

Rice Milk tastes better. As for which is healthier that depends on your thyroid level. If You have a high thyroid Soya Milk is better for you it helps to lower your thyroid. If U have low or normal Rice milk is better for you but Coconut milk is even better for you and even tastes better but doesn't mix well in coffee though!

Soy milk has significantly more protein, unless the rice milk is fortified. Also most soy milk is fortified with vitamin b12 not sure if its the same with the other.

I am a former chef from Canada and have used both for both cold and hot dishes, soya milk is not stable at high heat it will curdle, rice mik is not alot better but can be heated a bit more, you have remember, they grind the rice and soya beans, and then add water and cook them to extract the flours and proteins, it is not like cows milk as the proteins and lactose keep milk from curdling unless the structure is changed.

That is why soya cheese is not the same when cooking or melting as cows milk ones, you have to add it at the end and if broiling it, the melting will happen but the fat that causes cheese to brown is not there, but is perfectly fine to use for veggie lasagna or Mexican dishes.

Personally I like Rice Milk for my daughter because the color and texture is much closer to regular cows milk so she doesn't notice that it's any different than what her friends at school have.
