My wife doesn't like to cook, and I would really like to learn some decent recipes for dinner, but I guess that I am afraid I am not the cooking type. I need help getting over that hurdle.

Specifically I'm looking for some kind of reference on how much water to use in ratio to the amount of rice. Further tips on cooking it just right(without burning the pot) would also be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I saw on a documentary where women inmates in prison make brownies from candy bars and other prepacked snack foods, since obviously they have no access to an oven.
Anyone know the recipe?

I have this great recipie for beef stew and it calls for 1/2 cup of red wine. I'm concerned about that. I don't want my kids tipsy from the soup! lol. I'm just learning to cook great meals but I'm willing to skip this recipie if that's not a good look for my children. (they are 12 & 4 if that matters).

Many products purchased has thickening agents like potato starch or wheat gluten, etc. Where can we buy thickening agents without using corn starch. I prefer a light thickening for sauces and corn starch is too heavy.

My 2 year old is allergic to eggs. I know you can use jello as a subsitute( I don't know how), but what if I did not put eggs in at all or the jello. What would the cake be like? Dry, rubbery, flat...etc.

This student has a little bit of cooking experience but is no pro. The recipes can't take to much time to make, either. If you get the recipes off the internet, please provide the links. Thank you! I give best answer.

I made crabapple jelly. Boiled a pot full of apples covered with water. Smushed them to pulp. Drained clear thru cheesecloth. put the stained juice back on the stove. added 10 cups of sugar to 11 cups of juice. Brought to a rapid boil. 2-3 min. Removed from heat added 2 packets of certo stirred it in for 5 minutes. poured in jars and NOTHING, i got a little jelly skiff on the top and so far it's not taking??? Oh yeah, I added 2 tblsp. of lemon juice while cooking. What up???
