i'm not sure on the safety end, but i think it would make your food taste bad.

It's probably okay, just let it burn a little longer than you normally would to make sure anything foreign has been burnt off. And if possible, don't put the grill on right away. I'll take longer to heat up after, but at least you won't get burnt mold all over the cooking surface.

Moldy charcoal would suggest moisture!! Will it burn correctly?

if it lights, its safe...u shouldnt cook until the charcoal is white anyway, by which time any harmful bacteria, or shite as i like to call it, will be burnt off
