I want a wedding in a venue by the sea, (west coast scotland) but not part of a hotel wedding package. I want a BBQ on the beach for the evening supper & a bonfire. Non of which are offered in a package.
Can I still book a hotel & have them do this? Or are most hotels strict - our way or no way?

I'm 27 and I met a wonderful man 3 months ago online, (who is 29) and we fell in love almost instantly. Neither one of us has ever been so happy, and he's proposed and asked me to go with him to the county clerk's office next week and get married. He thinks we can have a proper wedding ceremony for our families at a later time, but it feels right to make it official now. I really want to be with this man for the rest of my life, and there isn't a shred of doubt in my heart that he's the one. But everyone thinks I'm a lunatic if I go through with this and marry a man I've only known for 3 months! Should I marry him anyway? Or should I wait?

I have 7 bridesmaids and all of them will need alterations to their dresses. The smallest girls are a size 0 but David's bridal dresses start at size 2 so those have to be taken in. I also have some shorter bridesmaids who will definitely have to have their gowns shortened. I don't remember exactly what the posted alteration fees were but I think they were pretty expensive. I don't want the girls to have to pay more for the alterations than the dress itself. Can anyone share their BM alteration experience at David's Bridal with me? How much did it cost? How good was the work? Please share any experience, good or bad!

My honey and I are planning our wedding and we have a big problem! We dont know how to keep his mother from attending! His mother severely abused him as a child...pretty much until he was 18. She beat him daily, sent him to the hospital, made him eat out of the garbage, and even tried to stab him. She doesnt call him by his name, she calls him "the idiot" and other not so nice names. She hasnt talked to him in over 10 years. Yet my honey is Indian (Parents came from India) and we want his father to attend. If his father comes, his mother will certainly try to come, if not crash the wedding.

We want his father to be there as their relationship has gotten better over the years, but there is a malicious hatred between my fiance and his mother.

Please...what do we do???

My mom is on parole. She hasn't changed since she got out of prison, and she is still the same way. I don't want her to cause problems at the wedding. She has a history of using people even family to commit identity fraud, even my own sister... so I don't want her to be an embarrassment. She constantly enjoys talking about her wild sex life, and her time in prison. And I don't want to put my husband and his family in the mix of her trying to find someone else's info to use for some kind of fraud again.... the wedding is already stressfull enough to plan, I can't deal with babysitting her during it too. But how do I tell her?

Is it weird to have a fancy wedding...but only one attendant on each side?

We're thinking about 150 guests and a catered reception in an old mansion....but we only want our sisters (he has one, I have one) to be our attendants...will this look strange? Our parents will be processing in with us too...

Thoughts?

I am recently engaged and I have not set a date so I am not rushing to make final arrangements for a wedding, but before I can go any farther I want to choose colors for my wedding. We are considering an outdoor summer wedding and reception. Safe color choices would be red, black and white, which I have always liked and are classic colors that would be easy to work with. I have always been one to be a little different without being wild and crazy, but I am envisioning a wedding with navy/midnight with black and some, (little) white for accents. I think that flowers would be the most difficult to coordinate a wedding with on a small budget in the Midwest. Does anyone have pictures from their own wedding or links to websites for reception decorations or flowers that agree with these colors and are still tasteful? I have seen many websites with blue flowers, but they are too light in color and I wish to avoid light blue colors, if necessary. Thanks for your input!

I will just be getting out of college (August 2008) and wont have a lot of money, but we would like a small, church ceremony, small reception without all the fancy stuff but still nice. What is the least amount I can spend for about 50-100 people. I don't know how many exactly but I do know it wont be more than 100. Thanks.

I found this really cool gift registry site called ourwishingwell.com and it allows you to add items and things like the honeymoon and house deposit which guests can contribute to. I think its better than selecting items from a particular store. If you were a guest, would you feel ok about donating money to a gift registry?

Whats the opinion of a wedding on this date?

I never really had a problem with them until we recently found out that my husband's cousin has set his wedding date for that day. We have 2 children and when I told my husband he got so annoyed. His feelings are that Halloween is like Santa, you only get a few where the kids are really into it and planning your wedding on that day kind of robs others and their kids of one of those days. He wants to decline, but I am not sure. I can see his side, but I also understand that the bride and groom dont have kids and couldnt possibly understand what taking your kids trick or treating means. But then, I dont want my kids missing out on a fun thing that they look forward to for months, between planning costumes and the thought of all that candy, I wouldnt want to take all that away from them. I am torn, I would love to hear what others think.

If you receive a postcard from the couple letting you know the date of their wedding, are you supposed to reply to it? Or is it really just a way for the couple to inform their friends of the date? Obviously I would reply to a wedding invitation, but if I receive a Save-the-Date postcard, is it necessary for me to tell the couple whether or not I'll be attending their wedding? Or is waiting for the invitation and replying then good enough?

I found this site, and am wondering if red flags should be going up. Here is the package I'm looking at:

http://milespendletonimages.com/JustShoot.aspx

I'm finding that other rates for having 2 photogs for 5 hours with an album and cd/dvd are over $1000 easily. Did I just find a good deal, or do I have good reason to be skeptical? I emailed them, and the 150 proofs are the pics that they take that they consider to be the best ones. Is 150 too few for a ceremony and reception?
