You are both grown adults with the ability to make your own decisions. At 25 years old, your fiancee should be able to stand up to her father. If you two both don't assert your authority now (in a tactful manner), Daddy will be running the show for the rest of your lives. He'll tell you what house to get, what car to get, when to have children, what to name them, and what positions to have sex in!
First bring the matter up with your girlfriend because Daddy's little girl or not, she is going to be your wife. If she continues to be so dependent on Daddy, what will she be like when you're married? Completely clingy and dependent on you?
You two need to make this decision together, without her Dad involved. There are two people in a marriage, not a husband, wife, and father in law.

I think that seems very long since she is 25 and you are 28, you are all grown up why should you wait another 4 years. Maybe have your fiance explain that she would like to start having children while she is still in her 20's and see if that works with her dad, a lot of times the mention of grandchildren will speed things along.

if it's for real 4 years is nothing compared to the lifetime that you wish to spend together. stay engaged, and hope that her father releases her early. =D marriage is a wonderful thing, and something worth waiting for and looking forward to. 4 years is a long time, but not that long. enjoy your relationship with her now, and learn more about her, grow with her, and take notes so when you do marry her you'll already be the PERFECT husband (but sorry, you'll never be better than mine lol)

If you're both adults, what's stopping you? Seems a little awkward to me. Sounds like y'all need to sit down with daddy and find a way to make a deal. If not, and you still wanna marry, nothing is stopping you. Life is too short to fiddle around with this type of nonsense. Of course in my world, once married, always married. Make sure she's the one.

Her father is making her wait??? Doesn't sound like she is mature enough if she can't tell her father that her wants/needs are more important than his in this case. As for the big wedding...sure, they are wonderful, but the marriage is the important thing. My first marriage I had the big wedding and it didn't last. My current marriage, we had a justice of the peace and only our children there...it was beautiful and I am so happy.

It's quite a long engagement. Out of curiosity, why did you get engaged so soon if you could not be married for 4 years? On the upside it gives her plenty of time to plan the wedding, and it gives you both plenty of time to save and budget for your futures!

So, is her beloved father also going to dictate when you two buy your first house together? When you two have your first child? Better yet, he can draw up the schedule for how often you two sleep together after you're married.
It's a good thing this adult woman can think for herself! She will make a wonderful friend, wife, and mother!
