No, you don't need to reply to the postcard. Save-the-date cards are sent so that valued guests (like you) will be able to make plans around the big day and will therefore be more likely to attend; it is not an invitation, just a heads up.

I would simply wait for the actual invitation. A formal reply probably isn't required of a save the date. Of course, when you see the couple I would mention to them you received their save the date announcement, and are looking forward to attending their wedding, or whatever.

You don't need to respond, it's just their way to tell you to save that date for them and their wedding. Usually, when we get a save the date, I call the bride or groom just to tell them that we got it, it's cute, and we're excited for their wedding. Brides love hearing that, I know I did!
