I want a wedding in a venue by the sea, (west coast scotland) but not part of a hotel wedding package. I want a BBQ on the beach for the evening supper & a bonfire. Non of which are offered in a package.
Can I still book a hotel & have them do this? Or are most hotels strict - our way or no way?

My suggestion would be to find a venue and book the hotel separately for your guests. The only other suggestion would be to see how you could "rent" an area of the beach and bring your own food, tents, etc. so you can do it your way. Most cities will allow you to have events on the beach like that if you apply for a permit.

If a hotel doesn't do it, there are outside catering companies that will be able to do it. However if the weather turns bad and you need to go in doors you could be stuck. You may have to hire a marquee just in case. You will probably also need permission from the local authority to hold the party on the beach. Most Hotels will bend over back wards to accommodate your needs especically for weddings. but don't be surprised if the price per head looks a little on the high side.

Carol, good luck! We had ours in a castle in Ireland and OMG. All our vendors bent over backwards.
The part of Scotland on the west coast I love is Kyle of Lochalsh near Skye.
Try:

There is a hotel and the bay is not that beachish but right by the town, the surrounding mountains are fantastic and there is a castle nearby.

Good luck with the weather tho! Have a back up plan!

Have a great day...

You will just have to find a place that is not a part of the hotel. So you will have to do the booking separate. I love the idea of a beach side BBQ and bonfire! Good luck.

Hey Carol, that sounds way cool. One of my friends has a wedding company in Hawaii. His name is Captain Howie. They will do a lot of nontraditional type weddings for people. He'll do chartered weddings at sea, on a beach and all. He's even got this really cool remote place you get to by a boat, that's on an island, where they have BBQ pits, volleyball courts and stuff. He's got some good hook ups for lodging as well, that's real inexpensive. You can look at his website http://www.hawaiiweddings.com/ Tell him Cory sent you.

Just call a few hotels that you like and speak to the wedding coordinator. Let them know the idea that you have and ask them if they can accommodate you or at least get close. If they can do what you want, I'm sure they would love the business, so it doesn't hurt to ask. If they say they can't do it, ask them if they know anywhere that can.

Just depends on the hotel. If they offer catering they should be able to work with you to make your plans happen.
