I have 7 bridesmaids and all of them will need alterations to their dresses. The smallest girls are a size 0 but David's bridal dresses start at size 2 so those have to be taken in. I also have some shorter bridesmaids who will definitely have to have their gowns shortened. I don't remember exactly what the posted alteration fees were but I think they were pretty expensive. I don't want the girls to have to pay more for the alterations than the dress itself. Can anyone share their BM alteration experience at David's Bridal with me? How much did it cost? How good was the work? Please share any experience, good or bad!

I have not had DB alterations for the same reasons others have said--high prices and poor customer service. I recently had fairly extensive alterations on a maids dress and paid only $30 to have the dress taken in and hemmed. I got the name of the seamstress from the local dry cleaner. In my experience, dry cleaners shops give great referrals for seamstresses. I would recommend going that route and avoiding DB alterations. Good luck!

I chose to get my girls dresses from another shop simply because when I saw the price it was more than the dress and I was like no I will not have them pay this kind of money to have it altered. I was told all dress in most bridal shops are simply made for women 5'7" and up and I am 5'4" and my girls are close to that too. On the other hand I have to have my last fitting for my dress I just brought from David's Bridal in February and I specifically told her I only want a hem which so far from the poster in the dressing room says it is $75, it is a lot but I want it done correctly and that way if they mess up my dress they have to get me another one.

Your link didn't work. Have you ever altered anything before? A pricey bridesmaid dress might not be the best thing to start with. If you are going to alter it, I would personally alter it from the side seams (but again I can't see the dress in the link), that's the professional way to do it. You can do it at the zipper, as long as you have the proper foot to put the zipper back on/ the patience to remove the zipper without damaging it. I personally hate attaching zippers, so I would avoid doing that at all costs. Addition: Well I would definitely avoid trying to remove and invisible zipper! Even my mom, who used to make and alter wedding/bridesmaids gowns avoids invisible zippers. You can take it in at the sides but removing the boning, taking it in, and then creating a new encasing for the boning and putting it back in. You will have to take the lining apart either way, and invisible zippers are a b***h to work with. Good Luck!

I have always been told to buy your dresses there, but go somewhere else for alterations. They are notorious for messing up alterations and they charge a fortune. You would have better luck going to a small boutique that sells wedding dresses and getting alterations there. They can usually give you a price upfront before any work is done if you go there with the girls and dresses.

I got my Davids Bridal bridesmaid dress altered at a private tailor. I spent $35, and they did a great job. I got it done this way because Davids wouldve taken too long.

I don't remember the costs, but they weren't that high for bridesmaid's dresses. For a dress that has to be taken in, it costs just as much to take it in 1 inch as 3 inches. Most women need their dresses altered. Only once have I encountered a bridesmaid who paid more for alterations than for her dress, and that was because she is heavy and had to order extra fabric and have the dress re-made to be bigger.

The fees vary from shop to shop! You would have to go personally and inform yourself as to the prices available at your local David's bridal. At times the alterations also vary as their seamstress are not always the best! You might want to go with one with good referrals and one with whom someone has seen their work prior to! They do take forever also another inconvenience! Shop around, Good Luck!

I didnt get my dresses altered at David bridal because their prices were outrageous. Also they required a rediculous amount of time and were also very unprofessional. I suggest going somewhere else. Good luck!

I bought my wedding dress from DB and it was absolutely beautiful!! It needed to be taken in, so what I did was talk to the head seamstress at DB. I went to her house so she could personally alter my gown in her private studio after hours. Check to see if any of them are willing to do this; cuts down on fees, time, etc.

I don't remember the cost, but I had my dress altered at DB and it came out beautifully. I imagine they mark up all of their costs though, so I would def. check with other tailors.

As a side note, I don't know what you are doing about shoes, but I had mine dyed there to match my dress and they came out amazingly.
