this ceremony would be simplistic and pledge our selves to each other, instead of adding all the legalality of it into our lives, we have an enormous understanding of what we each want and we feel as though we are spititual partners, but we just dont want the legality of the marriage. Can we do an old west attitude in a union with out it being legal what are your thoughts?

Ok so I am getting married at the end of next year and my fiance and I have decided to start planning. First off, of course, we decide who is going to be in our wedding. He has his guys picked out, but I am having an issue. He has 3 sisters that I do get along with very well but we are not "best" friends, and I don't know if it's wrong to not have them as bridesmaids? I have 2 best friends picked out for sure, so now I gotta pick either his 3 sisters or my 3 cousins which I am pretty close to. My Mom tells me to have who I want because it is my wedding, but I don't want any hard feelings with my fiance's sisters in any way and they are the type that may get pissy if I don't have them in it...my fiance's brother got married a couple of months ago and his wife had the 3 sisters in their wedding so it almost makes me feel like I have to have them in my wedding. Is it almost tradition nowadays to have your future sister-in-laws in the wedding? His sisters or my cousins...I need advice!!

My brother is getting married in March and would like to ask a friend to get ordained so that he can marry them. Yet we've heard that the military won't accept it if the ceremony is done that way. Is that true? Has someone been through something like this?

Was in a wedding a didn't quite understand why having a child dressed up like a bride and walk down the isle was necessary.

Hi everyone! I just got engaged! So happy and excited! I wanted to get your opinions. Me and my fiance were supposed to have a court wedding because we wanted it simple and small. Now, we want to have a bigger wedding. We want to budget for this wedding but know that we have to save. We want to get married sometime next year. We are thinking of having about possibly 100-200 guests. I would like to have the wedding and the reception in the same area. A beach wedding would be great! Does anyone know a place where we can have a nice wedding that is affordable? We want to try to spend less than $6000? Any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

I was curious as to how much these musicians cost to hire for an hour. How much did you pay, and for how long?

So my soon to be mother in law calls me in a panic because her brother whom she hasn't seen in two years (I have NEVER met them and they didn't even bother coming to the engagement party or shower) is insulted we didn't invite his children and all their grandchild over the age of 21 since the card says adult reception. They are insisting we at least have to allow them to have a least 5 people and they are only slotted for two.
My question is- Is this normal behavior? In my family it’s completely unheard of questioning an invitation- and if you don’t like it then you just decline. If you don’t get one- you just think wow that’s rude but won’t dare question it. I think it’s rude and tacky to call up and insist on having more people. Plus I think they are being ridicules because they were even insulted to be told that they would have to wait for a few people to cancel and we shouldn’t have a problem working it out. My fiancé’s mom thought we should just “cancel” invitations to our friends because family is more important in her mind.

Do people start smoking crack while they read wedding invites?? Or are wedding invites printed with special ink that once your touch it- you go crazy?

i want my reception to be at the ritz carlton in ny and that is the price they told me. i have approx. 350-400 people attending so im looking at atleast $80000. (thats just for the ballroom)(food+drink separate)

theres no way i can afford that unless i take a loan. (a big one--$40000).

is it worth it??

i really want my reception at the ritz-carlton in ny. i really have my heart set on it. i walked into it one day when my fiance and i were in ny and just fell in love.

just looking for more opinions...or suggestions as to how i can make this work.

I'm wondering about two things. I'm getting married on Halloween next year so the whole thing is very informal. First off, do i have to send out save the dates or would it be ok to use an email site that i found that works out perfectly. Gives the guests all the details and they are really cute; Plus it cuts back on costs and since we are paying ourselves that helps ALOT! Also do i have to have a bridal party dance? I don't really care either way and i know they won't either.

Hoping it will still be snowing outside, and have a lovely blanket of snow on the ground. I think that would be beautiful.

by a priest if you don't get married in a church? I plan on getting married on the beach but i'm hoping to still get married by a priest or preacher. If i do the marriage is official then and there right, as long as i apply for the marriage license 72 hours before the wedding?

I am desperately trying to convince my intended that I do not want a diamond engagement ring (reasons: potential for buying a 'blood diamond', personal taste and the cost).
He doesn't want to hear it. Any ideas on how I can convince him?
He is the most wonderful guy in the world, but he can be stubborn on things he feels are important (such as what an engagement ring is supposed to look like).
I don't want to be a diva and tell him "this is what I want or else!" I really want him to like the ring, too.
Any ideas on how I might try to convince him that stones other than diamonds are wonderful options???

I am planning my wedding for next summer. I have a pretty limited budget. I am wanting to get married in a sculpture garden at around 7:30pm and then have my guest(40-50) back at my mothers house for reception"party". Is this an okay time to do a finger food reception(sandwiches, fruits, cheeses, dainties). We are wanting to rent a tent for the yard and maybe banquet tables to have the foods placed on, can I use expensive clear plastic plates or dinner plates?? Also, any ideas on the alcohol serving part. We would like to buy most of it but how to have self serve? If you get my drift of what I am planning please give some suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

We are getting married next July, doing most of the planning and paying for the wedding ourselves. Any advice of what you are glad you did at your wedding, things you would change, or just general advice for us? Or even things you have seen going to other peoples weddings that you loved or hated? Ideas!!! :)

I am going to a wedding in a few weeks, and I know the bride very well, but the groom I have only spoken to a few times. Is it inappropriate to get a gift that is more focused on the bride and her personality than a traditional wedding gift such as an appliance or something?

I am planning a nice sit-down dinner. Is it rude to not offer guests a choice of entree?
At the place I have selected for the reception it is one price for the selection of one entree and quite a bit more if I offer guests a pre-selected choice of 2 (I still have to give an exact count ahead of time). I'm not thrilled at being raked over the coals and can't think of any issues if I selected the one entree (I know all of our guests would eat it, nobody is a vegetarian or has allergy issues). It makes me wonder, do the guests expect to be given a choice of entree?

We're doing a big wedding on a small budget and trying to cut costs wherever possible. Do you think it's tacky to use postcards for the RSVP's? The wedding is somewhat formal, but in no way black tie, and I'm DIY-ing the invites.

Do you think it's okay, or should I suck it up and spend the extra money on card, envelope, postage?

:)

Wedding Cake Dilemma!?

Ok, My husband (whome I married 4 months ago and are having a big wedding/reception next may) thinks it is dumb to spend money on a Professionally done Bridal Cake. (he is very frugal when it comes to money, and insists on a GROCERY STORE CAKE)

I have showed him how great they can look and professionally done and he suggests (since I do cook/bake a lot) to make our own for the wedding.

There is 250 days left until the big wedding and I am getting seconds thoughts on doing it because I know I will be running around with a million different things days before it.

He said to enlist my mother in law and sister in law in for extra help on the cake, but I DON'T want to do it. I am getting upeset about what he wants and refuses to listen other wise.

I tried telling him it is going to cost about the same if I make it or not and furthermore I need money and time to practice before the final product (if i were to make it) he is being very unreasonable. What do i do?
