i have heard from several people that mentioning the word WEDDING causes prices to skyrocket in catering, florists, reception halls etc...is that true? one of my college room mates just got enagaged and im helping her plan everything and im going to be the MOH and her mom said to tell all the vendors that we need everything for an anniversary party so we dont get screwed over for price....could that cause any issues if the vendors find out its not a anniversary party and that we lied just to keep the cost down...can we get in any legal trouble for that....please help...she doesnt want the prices to jump up just cuz its a wedding but i also dont want to lie to everyone and potentially cause more issues...and please no mean comments...i know it probably is a stupid question but i dont know anything about this..thanks

My fiance took me to the Grand Canyon and took a ring out and put it on my finger, but he never asked me to marry him. He then called all his family and said we were getting married and started introducing me as his fiance. We are not planning a wedding because his mother lives in Guam and she can't come out for a year. It really bothers me that he never even said "will you marry me?" I have brought this up many times, and he always says that it's completely stupid that I care about that because we are already engaged. I really don't feel like we are engaged, because he didn't ask me. Is this stupid?

My fiance and I are having an outdoor wedding at a country club in our home town next July. Small-ish, only 150-175 people are going to be there, the bulk of which is family and close friends.
I was looking at tuxedos for the big day and had found a few that I like. But, while browsing through one of her bridal magazines, I came across a "groom" in a very nice tan suit, and thought that would look nice; but when I mentioned the idea of my best man and I dressing in suits rather than tuxedos, she didn't seem pleased. Does anyone have experience with this? I just think if I am going to pay $150 for a tuxedo to wear for one day or $250-300 for a great suit I can keep forever..... It's a no brainer for me. Should I just give in and not bring it up again? Or should I try a different approach. It's her day I suppose.... but it makes sense to wear a suit.... It would be very nice, much cooler than a tux, and both myself and my best man could keep the suit.. Help!

I have found a wedding dress which i really adore, i dont know if it appears too "simple/casual", Our wedding is in a country area by the lake surrounded by mountains - which will be snowy at the time of our wedding. Despite the snow, the weather is usually pretty good at that time of year anyways and not freezing!!

This is the link to a pic of dress...

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

My wedding is at 17:00 and the game starts at 21:00. I know the guys coming to the wedding are big rugby fans, and there was suggested that we must put up a bigscreen for them to watch the game, but I feel that I'm only getting married once and if they really respect me and my fiance, they will enjoy the wedding with us and forget about the game. Or must I just stay quiet and accept what happens?

PS: My mother suggested that the food must be served at 21:30. That way, nobody can just leave to go and watch the game. Oh boy! I think it's really rude of people to just leave! All the time and money put in the reception.

My father was a very abusive man when I was young. He was abusive mainly to my mother and some of my brothers and sisters. I however was spared this. My parents divorced when I was 8 and I haven't seen my father in over 12 years but I will speak to him once every year or two. However, before all of this I was very very very close to him and well he is blood. Not to mention that all of my 4 brothers are very close to him. But the trouble is that my grandfather used to be the chief of police (who I am closer to than my own mother) and my uncle is a very passionate advocate against domestic violence. Not to my step dad and I'm afraid what will happen if they ever see him again. My father is still blood but its my wedding day and I really dont want the police show up to my reception or deal with someone getting hurt and the drama of it all. Should I invite him? If not how should I break it to him that he's just not invited? PLEASE HELP! I dont know what to do!

my boyfriend( of 5 years) his son is getting married. well my b-friends ex is throwing them a wedding shower. we got the invitation with a note stating that we are all to purchase items from pampered chef for our gift to them, that means with the credits from the items we are all to order she will use the credits to get gifts for the bride & groom, yes that means the items that she orders will be from credit and they be free, not costing her a cent. ( i will be taking a outside gift). i feel this is very tacky.how do you all feel about this? ps... the future bride & groom have lived together for a year allready so they really dont need expensive pampered chef junk i mean who really needs a &25.00 ice cream scoop???

How much should I expect to pay to have my engagement ring sent out by the jeweler to get cleaned in that machine to buff the scratches out? It's white gold and I never take it off so it's not looking its brightest and I'd like it to get that sparkle back for the wedding pictures. There's just too much contrast between it and my wedding band. Thanks!

You're engaged and you purchase a house with your fiance which they put 99% of the money into and then after living in the house for 3 months your fiance forces you and your son to move out and rent because they didn't like your attitude and didn't trutst you and you were arguing all the time, but they still wanted to see you and be your boyfriend. Would you want to still be their partner after being pressured to move out? . . on the premise that maybe one day you may be allowed to move back in if your good. Even if your fiance justified it by saying that they had to implement a separation on account of the reationship. Is being forced out of your own home a big deal??

We don’t have the funds for a wedding reception…so, we were thinking of just getting married (maybe Vegas) without the reception and just out to dinner with close family…now, I really want to experience the whole father daughter dance and our first dance and the cutting of the cake…but, my fiancé rather save the money that we would need to use for something wiser like, getting our house, or for (future) children…

Has any one just had the ceremony and not the reception? And how did it turn out and do u regret it?? This is a very hard choice for me…I know that it shouldn’t matter, but, it’s a once in a life thing and I just want it to be nice…is it ok not to have a reception???

thanks

My fiance and I have been engaged for 5 months and been dating for a year and 4 months and we still don't have a song. I want to be able to dance to "our" song at our wedding. Is there any easy way we could find one before our wedding? What are some good songs?

I assume the bridal party song is right after the first dance? Correct me if I am wrong? Should the song be fast or slow or does it matter? Would it be wrong of me to torment my bridal party with my warp sense of humor and make them all dance to Vanilla Ice?
Ice Ice Baby?? Or How about the Spice girls- I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want?

i want my reception to be at the ritz carlton in ny and that is the price they told me. i have approx. 350-400 people attending so im looking at atleast $80000. (thats just for the ballroom)(food+drink separate)

theres no way i can afford that unless i take a loan. (a big one--$40000).

is it worth it??

i really want my reception at the ritz-carlton in ny. i really have my heart set on it. i walked into it one day when my fiance and i were in ny and just fell in love.

just looking for more opinions...or suggestions as to how i can make this work.

ok, i know i asked this before..but today my father agreed to put $15000 toward the wedding and and fiance's parents agreed to put forward $15000 as well.

so i would probably just be taking out $20000 in loans...worth it or not?
