My friend and I are singing at a wedding and were supposed to come up with a traditional wedding song to sing. It needs to be able to have harmony put to it. Any ideas? Please help!

Thanks!

The Wedding Song by Noel Paul Stookey. I had it sung at my wedding, it's really a beautiful song.

He is now to be among you
at the calling of your hearts.
Rest assured this troubadour
is acting on His part.

The union of your spirits, here,
has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you
are gathered in His name
There is Love. There is Love.

A man shall leave his mother
and a woman leave her home
And they shall travel on
to where the two shall be as one.

As it was in the beginning
is now and til the end
Woman draws her life from man
and gives it back again.

And there is Love. There is Love.

Well then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife?

Is it Love that brings you here or Love that brings you life?

And if loving is the answer, then who's the giving for?

Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?

Oh there's Love, there is Love.

Oh the marriage of your spirits here
has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you
are gathered in His name

There is Love. There is Love.

I assume you mean for the ceremony. The most popular choices in my experience are:

How Beautiful - Twila Paris
The Wedding Song - Paul Stookey (good for harmony very traditional)
Wherever You Go - Weston Priory/Gregory Norbet
Covenant Hymn - Gary Daigle
Beginning Today - Darryl Ducote
I Am Here - Steven Curtis Chapman
One Hand One Heart (from West Side Story)
Let there Be Peace On Earth - Jill Jackson/Seymour Miller
The Prayer - David Foster/Carol Bayer Sager (recorded by Andreas Bocelli and Celine Dion Great for harmony)
You Raise Me Up - Rolf Lovland & Brendan Graham recorded by Josh Groban.. GREAT For Harmony!!)
I also like Where There is Love - David Haas

Good luck!

you can listen to a lot of them here

The perfect song, for harmony would be the Hawaiian wedding song, that Don Ho made famous.

"Where there is love, there is God" written by David Haas Very appropriate in most cases....easy keyboard and vocal.

You don't mention what type of voice you have or the timing of the song. My suggestions:
Here And Now by Luther Vandross

One look in your eyes and there I see
Just what you mean to me
Here in my heart I believe
Your love is all I'll ever need
Holdin' you close through the night
I need you, yeah

I look in your eyes and there I see
What happiness really means
The love that we share makes life so sweet
Together we'll always be
This pledge of love feels so right
And, ooh, I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), hey
Your love is all (I need) I need

Say, yeah, yeah...

When I look in your eyes, there I'll see
All that a love should really be
And I need you more and more each day
Nothin' can take your love away
More than I dare to dream
I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need

(Starting here) Ooh, and I'm starting now
I believe (I believe in love), I believe
(Starting here) I'm starting right here
(Starting now) Right now because I believe in your love
So I'm glad to take the vow

Here and now, oh
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now, yeah
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need

I, hey...yeah...yeah...hey...
Uh, hey...
I-I, love is all I need
Ooh...ooh...yeah...
Yeah...yeah...hey...yeah...yeah...
Love is all I need
Ooh...ooh...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh
Hey...yeah
Hey...yeah...

and a really pretty song:
Longer Than by Dan Fogelberg
Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
Ive been in love with you.

Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you.

Ill bring fires in the winters
You'll send showers in the springs
Well fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings.

Through the years as the fire starts to mellow
Burning lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding cracks and the pages start to yellow
Ill be in love with you.

Longer than thereve been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than thereve been stars up in the heavens
Ive been in love with you
I am in love with you..

An I echo the suggestion for the Carpenters'
We've Only Just Begun - it really is beautiful.

Good luck!
