I work 12 hours on Sat's and do 30 hours behind the scene. Then people say "Oh! You have it easy. You just shoot pictures and eat at the reception". If it's so easy how come everyone isn't doing it?

It's definetly NOT easy. You have gazzilion guests, unruly flower girls, bad light condition indoors and try to coordinat every one's eyes are open during the pictures.

People don;t understand how hard it really is.

I don't want your job. That's for sure. Dealing with bridezillas, No thanks.

Good luck

I've done 6 weddings in my life for friends, relatives, and a co-worker, and I'm with you. Wedding photography isn't easy at all. It's a heck of a long day to start, and you've got to be on your feet most of the time. And through all of that you have to be creative also. Looking for unique aspects for your photos, so your job doesn't look like it's out of a textbook, or like everyone else's work. Working with gear, and assistants, and people you don't know, and still make sure you get everyone that's supposed to be photographed done. WHEW! Then it's time for darkroom, or digital darkroom magic. And people wonder why the photographer costs so much. It's not easy, and everyone CAN'T do it.

On your wedding contract you should state next to your package choices how much time you spend on the reception and all other work you do. Say I work 12 hours of coverage and spend about 30 hours behind the scenes. ETC Then before they pay you a deposit they already know how much effort it takes to do a wedding. I've seen photographs do that.

Everybody thinks everybody else's job is easy. If you're being questioned about your fees, then simply explain the amount of time it takes to get the photography done. If you're just whining that nobody appreciates you, then get over it.

Misconception. It is just people being uninformed. Make sure your clients know how much work you do. You don't have to "justify" your fees or anything, just let people know how many hours a wedding actually involves.

I agree with ERK. Everyone else's job looks simple to a person who doesn't realize all that is involved.

I wish I had a good comeback that you could arm yourself with. Perhpas another responder will have one.
