But then again I would like to do something less costly concidering there will be around 300 people attending.

Any other fun cute ideas are welcome!

Tiny (1-2 fl oz) decorative bottles filled with beach sand and a few tiny shells and shards of coral, maybe a few bright beads for color. Use a cork instead of a screw on top and use ribbon to tie on a colorful tag with your names and the date. Something printed then hand colored or decorated with stamps makes each one personal. You can even use them for place card holders by adding a "sleeve" made of 3X5 or business card size pasteboards. (Printers will cut you up business card size blanks in the paper of your choice. Or with print.)

People don't take candles and favours like that. I think you'll have a lot left over and it would be money wasted.

You can buy sea shells in bags at the dollar store. Why don't you put one shell (cupped side up) on each plate and fill each with a few chocolate kisses or other small candies. Then people can have something to nibble on while they're waiting for the wedding party but it won't break the bank or be thrown out at the end of the day.

you should buy seashells and paint or write on them and use them as a placecard.

candles are really cute, but they are a very feminine gift and many male guests may leave them behind. the best kind of favors are food favors, most people will eat them there and someone else will be picking up the trash anyways. buying favors like candles and other things...be prepared to have a lot left over for yourself sometimes.

maybe do like sugar cookies in the shapes of something beachy, use a sea blue icing and white writing. do like a clam shape with your initals on it. (his first letter of his first name, your first letter of your last name, and the first letter of your first name. Mine would be JBC for example. It's fairly simple and can be made easily in mass quanity, plus if you get them from the same place you get your cake from they may even give you a break on the price if you ask.

IMO with favors, if they are not edible/drinkable or able to burn (like candles) then they should not be used. I can't remember a favor that I liked and kept that were any of the ones I mentioned.

We are doing bottles of water (beach wedding June 2008) with our names on them and also doing either M&Ms or candy bars.

I think they are very cute. I have been to a beach themed wedding before and they gave out black and white flip flops to each couple with the little tag saying "Thank you being there with us for our first steps as husband and wife"..Corny but cute. It only cost her about a dollar for each pair of the flip flops at the dollar store.

They sell seashells by the bag at craft stores, I bet you could make something with those or even use them to decorate the tables or write the guests names on instead of traditional place cards.
You could also get those paper umbrellas pretty inexpensively those would be nice on the tables.

Good luck!
