Hi, I'm on my way of becoming a Wedding Planner. I use to be an assistant wedding planner (and got no pay for it) but it was still well worth it. Yes there's, schools, as others have said, and yes it's true to find a pro and ask if you can work with them.....what I'm doing is trying to own my own company since I've realized I'm good at it, as well as planning other events. Right now get as much as experience as you can. Voleenter yourself to even do baby showers, even if it's just to plan the games to gain enough experience. Also everything you do, take pictures, of it, and make a scrapbook like of it, basically that would be your portufolio. The portfolio should also have letters and recommendations from clients, friends and family that you have done. Also use your dining room table, and set it up as fancy as you can, with different designs as you can, and take pic's of that as well to put in your book. Any event you can get your hands on, i recommend taking pictures of everything, as well as people. Lastly they have courses online which should take no more then 2 months to do, to be a certified wedding planner, which i'm doing.

I am a Certified Wedding Specialist. There are courses (Home Study) that you can take. I personally took a course through Weddings Beautiful -it's an Association that is a part of the National Bridal Service. The course was about $500 and you go at your own pace. There is also another association called ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants). They also offer a wedding consultant course. Both associations offer membership within their organization an offer seminars and courses (in different locations) throughout the year for career development. Also some community colleges now offer event planning or wedding planning courses so you can look into your local schools for that option also. Normally planners charge either 5-10% of the total wedding budget or they have pre priced packages of services they offer.

Good Luck!

It's no longer always highly-priced. If you intend on going to institution, institution guides in occasion making plans, inn and eating place leadership can support. You certainly no less than wish a certificates path, many are furnished on-line. That means purchasers take you severely. It does take many years to construct up consumers. Remember this can be a industry, it isn't some thing you'll simply bounce into. You would possibly not make any cash for three-five years, that's the traditional within the enterprise whilst constructing your possess industry. It's nice to paintings for anybody else or no less than shadow (unpaid internship) to quite gain knowledge of the industry. In this economic system, I would not suggest it as a profession, no person is hiring planners proper now seeing that every person is making an attempt to save cash. But in the event you get a institution measure you might paintings for a organization or non benefit organizing parties. You might paintings for a inn organizing their parties adding weddings and so on, so getting a institution measure in inn and eating place leadership has plenty of choices. Good success!

The best way to learn to become a wedding planner is to apprentice yourself to a pro. Find a wedding planner and ask them if you can shadow them for a week. (Yeah, unpaid) Ask them all the questions you can while you're there and you'll learn all about the trade.

There are courses at community colleges to take.
If you plan on having a very big business, you may want to start with a business plan.
I do not think any wedding planner is going to let you 'apprentice' with them, knowing that you are a conflict of intrest.
good luck!
