My partner & I would love to celebrate our marraige by doing a worthy cause - ie, ask guests not to bring gifts, but if they wish to, support us with a donation towards charities we support. We are getting married in Sri Lanka where most of the guests are from - we need to word this suggestion correctly (so it doesn't look like we are demanding money!!)and send this out with the invites. Thanks for your time !

i don't and it's because i don't believe love can be defined..there are so many meanings. be it commitment, a game, a deep friendship..passion.. i believe in the unconditional..the way i love my sister. first of all, i think it's just wrong to put love in between papers..saying "ok this is your mate for life"..it's a freaken CONTRACT!! i just don't believe you can put love in the papers..+second, what if that love between you fades away? you'll have to go through nasty divorce?? and the financer will have to pay to the other partner for the rest of his life untill they get married again..that's what my uncle has to do right now..he gave the car to my x aunt, and he's paying her now because she's not married.

and when it comes to weddings, it just makes me really upset to know, many more people..mostly girls (don't mean to stareotype) et excited, not by the idea of a contract together (marriage) but by the stupid 2 hr cerimony..for pete's sake! why waste so much $$ on that?

My husband is deaf and my son's best man. I've know the bride to be her whole life. Still don't feel she's opening up to me. The Hall was picked out without me (I'm paying for open bar/drinks/music/wine w/dinner). I feel kinda' taken for granted. There's much more. My daughter is standing up also... a dress was picked out that is very unflattering to her and there are no exceptions. I'm trying to think she's not being mean on purpose?

My best friend of 8 years is getting married in December. I just met the groom for the first time this summer for about an hour. Anyway, I need helpful suggestions of what to get her and especially the groom (because i don't even know him). I want my friends gift to be meaningful. I know you guys don't know her, but you can still give helpful tips.

How do I get my boyfriend to propose? We have only been together for 5 months but have been through a lot! We were only together for 1 month when we found out that I was pregnant. We moved right in with each other. We recently lost our baby after preterm labor at 17 1/2 weeks. It brought us even closer and we have decided to try again in 6 months. I want him to ask me to marry him before we get pregnant again. He said he thought about marriage but needed time. I don't need time because I have been married before and know that I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I know what love is but he has not been married and is 6 years younger than me. Should I propose to him? I just don't want to get turned down. What should I do? Also, I have been seperated from my husband for almost a year and it will be finalized in early December. I don't know if he is waiting for that to talk to me about when we might get engaged. With the loss of our child, it will help me cope.

No, I'm not going to ask the same tired old question of "Is it rude to have a cash bar?" I know the answer is yes, despite what we would all like to believe. We are planning to have a hosted bar, but can likely only afford a soft bar (beer & wine, with no hard alcohol). My question is this: If we are only hosting the beer & wine, should we instruct the facility not to have hard alcohol available? I'm not trying to prevent drunkenness, but I think that if we are hosting to prevent the rudeness of expecting people to pay, then we should make it impossibe for them to pay for anything. Hopefully some professionals can answer this one for me, although the "average wedding guest attendee" perspective would be welcomed too. Thanks.

OK- I have this friend who is super jealous I got engaged before her and she is driving me nuts. She just keeps making comments and "decision" about my wedding like it's her own. For example, she decided that cash bar would be a great idea to save money, plus SHE doesn't drink and then proceed to tell people that my wedding was cash bar. I was soo annoyed and we are having a full stock bar! Betty is still extremely mad because her and her BF have been together longer then us. She has made comments that she wants to get married in October which I didn't think much of because she not engaged or even in a good stable relationship. Well, I just found out through a mutual friend that Betty is DEMANDING an engagement for Christmas or she is leaving the guy. OK, well I am getting married the first week of NOV and she was talking about getting married right around Halloween!!!
OK- it's not like I own the date but I think it's really rude! Plus it sucks for all of our mutual friends that have to be in two wedding back to back, plan and pay for 2 showers and bridesmaids dresses and such.
There is the chance, that her BF is more sane then her and realize they are not ready to get married and NOT get her the ring but I am just preparing myself for the worst. I do feel bad, because I want her to be happy but I know her since childhood and I just feel like she is trying to "beat" me in the game of life!
Anyone else have this happen?
And how did you handle it??

Ok this might sound a little selfish and I guess it really is in a way. My husband and I just got married this past Sunday. After the wedding and reception my parents and friends stayed to clean up everything and gather all of the gifts up for us. Well... there were no gifts to get. Besides all of the people who came to my shower, not one person even gave us a card for our wedding. Should I be irritated or just get over it? I understand times are tough, but don't you think they should have at least bought us a card? His own mother didn't even give us a gift and she didn't spend one dime on our wedding! Let me know what you think. Thanks!

P.S. His family never had any objections about us getting married just to let you all know.

I posted this yesterday but put it under the wrong category!
got engaged in August and just moved in with my fiance. He has told me we can get married when, how & wherever I want so everything is basically up to me. We each have 2 teenagers and they all live with us. 3 of the 4 teens (girls) are adamant about wanting to be in the wedding and not wanting us to elope. I suspect their main concern is getting to wear a cool dress! I really just want to elope or get married by the JP and take a cool honeymoon. We have both been married before. Having a wedding here brings up all kinds of stressful issues, like both of are ex's would probably want to attend, trying to keep it small but too many people that would be offended if they are not invited....
So.....any good suggestions???

Ideally I'd like to become minor Royalty, but anyone would be acceptable to me as long as I can have several credit cards.

I know a lot of you will criticise me for this, but we each individually decide what we want from life and what I want is money, money and an adopted baby like Madonna.

I need help. My best girl friend is getting married in march of 07. I am a bridsmaid and am helping her plan her wedding. I am soo soo single. Should I go by myself or find someone to go with?

I have mostly girl friends and not a lot a boys I hang around with. I feel weird going to a wedding by myself expecsially when I am sitting at the head table.

I don't know what to do. I would feel weird if I was the only single one sitting up at the head table.
