Never mind the weather! I went to a beautiful wedding once held on Jan 6th. Bride wore a long, trained, red velvet coat with long fur trimmed sleeves and the wedding was held in candlelight in the church which still had Christmas decorations up (last day). They went on to a hotel which was like a Baronial Hall with a huge fireplace with roaring log fire and minstrels gallery with live musicians playing during the meal. She removed the lovely medieval looking coat for the reception and underneath was a lovely cream and gold dress in regency style. Very much a 'Pride and Prejudice' look, it was so different and very beautiful. OK they were actors and got the costumes from a Theatrical Costumiers, but why not? You never wear the dress again, so why keep it? The point being, the photographs were lovely in the church, and the reception, it really did not matter that it was cold and dark outside, after all candlelight is very flattering! Everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to and so memorable! Why should everyone have the spring/summer wedding and photos outside? By the way they hired a ceilidh (country dance) band for the reception with a really good 'caller' and everyone joined in. Little ones and grandparents could all have a go, it was so much nicer than a loud DJ!!

If the weather is likely to be an issue why not book one of those wedding packages that do the ceremony in maor houses, halls etc, that way you get the package of the ceremony and the 'DO' under one roof without the worry of the weather. If your son is adamant he wants to go abroad why dont the compromise and have a small intimate ceremony somewhere hot and sunny with close family and then back home for the reception where everyone can be involved

It would be easier to help you with your search if you tell us in which state you are in so that we can look for venues in your state as well. I suggest you go to www.theknot.com and look for reception sites in your state and destination weddings, that's what I would do to answer your question.
During winter having a wedding indoors is the safest bet, and if you do decide to move it to some other country or a warmer place, check the weather in that area as well, remember that the weather all over the world is changing.
Hope this helped. Good luck!

My brother and his girlfriend have the same problem, but they are thinking of Scotland in a wonder full castle, with big log fires. If its cold then she is going to have a faux fur wrap, and then the photo can be in side the castle.or out .
Have fun there is a venue out there for them. Personally I think a winter wedding is more memorable. After the wedding then they are to somewhere HOT.

Where do you live?
Winter weddings are wonderful. You can go to a ski resort and have a great wedding! Gold courses are a great unexpensive alternative as well during that tiem of the year. bed and breakfast offer a elegant, intimate, affordable option.
Good luck
