I have noticed from reading postings about weddings and the planning of weddings that there seem to be so many more things to think about that I had originally thought, I have never heard of half the things mentioned, like Bridal Showers, bridal shower favours, welcome bags, where does it stop? I don't even think I want to give out favours at my wedding, it all seems like a lot of added expense!! We are paying for the guests accommodation, for their meals and drinks, I don't think our budget is going to stretch to buying them gifts as well. Would you be disappointed in not getting a favour?

My boyfriend and I are 32 and 29, respectively, and we want to get married. We live 1200 miles from my family and old friends. It would be logical to get married in my hometown, as that is where the majority of the would-be guests live. However, we don't have thousands of dollars of extra money saved, and I'd really rather have money for a down payment on a house than a wedding. BUT there's that part of me that still really wants to get to wear a beautiful dress and be a princess for a day.
Weddings are such a commodity now that it's hard to figure out a way to do it really low key...

Any thoughts or ideas? No wedding? Or what?

My fiance and I would like to dance (for the first dance) a very well known song, something "new" but with a lot of pop-rock sound.
For example Escape by Enrique Iglesias, someone said maybe Smooth by Rob Thomas...any suggestions for this issue. We would like something differente and cool!!

A freind, proposed to his g/f an hour ago, she walked out on him. they have been very close freinds for 20 years and lovers for 5, 2 weeks ago they had their first child, which he dotes on, a perfect couple you could not get anywhere in the world, they are so made for each other. he confided in me that he woke up, saw her beside him, little baby sleeping peacfully between mom and dad, and he realised that this is all he ever wanted right there in that moment. that is why he proposed, marriage is something they have talked about, but never followed through. i told him that when a woman has a baby the hormones are mixed and unbalanced as well as being a big shock, the proposal by the guy she loves isn't a thing to be taken lightly. she has probly taken time to herself, so she can think things out and make a decision. i just advised him to wait it out and give her space, she'll come to him, and even if she rejects the proposal today, it doesn't mean that a wedding won't be in the future.

I cannot seem to find a caterer that will help me for under $35 a person. I am having a wedding with about 25-30 people and we want it very casual. The last quote I got was $32 a person, which seemed fine, but then they required waiters and rental fees and added on gratuity! It ends up being $68 a person! Help! I went to theknot.com and that is no help.
