The grooms family is who is supposed to give the rehersal dinner, since the brides father is paying for the wedding.

Traditionaly, the Groom's family host the rehearsal dinner; since the Bride's family is paying for the wedding. Nowadays, the Bride and Groom usually foot the bill for everything; unless someone offers to help out.

Hi and Congrats on your wedding! ^_^. As most of all the other people have posted, Tradition calls for the Groom's family to take care of the reception dinner; however this could be paid or taken care of by the groom's men and bride's maids or by the bride and groom's siblings; it can really be absorbed by whomever would love to carry it out, and it doesn't necessarily have to be at an expensive restaurant or a fancy location, it can certainly be done at home, in a very cozy but charming manner, to pre-celebrate the wedding to come!. It can be a BBQ , Asian or Italian meal, all that it matters is that it is fun for all, and relaxing!, you two already have much to worry about, and making a big deal out of another extra thing should be the last thing you probably want...maybe slip in the comment when you're with your family....as in "well if any of you would like to throw us out rehearsal lunch/dinner, we'd be happy to accept", you'll be sure to get someone to offer! ^_^

Have fun and enjoy your special day!

Best of luck!
Melissa T.

My son is getting married in a little over two weeks. It is his second wedding, and we are doing the rehearsal for the second time. This one we are doing at home ourselves, but it will be a lot more fun. It is tradional for the grooms side to host the party or dinner, but anyone can host it or help. We are also helping with the wedding as the bride's family is from out of town.

The rehearsal dinner is traditionally paid for by the groom's parents. The bride can set it up and the in-laws can basically just pay for the check, if you want. But, make sure this is discussed beforehand to avoid surprises.

The grooms family gives the rehearsal dinner along with paying for the bar, band and flowers at the wedding. At least that is how it was years ago, I believe that hasn't changed.

The grooms family is SUPPOSED to take care of it. The brides family gets to pay for the wedding (mine was over $75,000.00) the DJ, the flowers and on and on -- the grooms family is supposed to spend the whopping $500.00 on dinner but usually don't.

All my friends and my 2 sisters - I haven't met a mother of the groom who contributed 2 cents to the wedding (but that is why the phrase ISN'T "Daughter of a *****")
