I got engaged to a wonderful, wonderful woman just last month. We had been dating, kind of on the sly, for over a year. Why on the sly? Because she's black.

Her family is very close and loving, and they have completely accepted me. Her mother could very well be my mother. She is the warmest and most compassionate human being I've ever met, and she passed that on to her daughter, which is why I love her so much.

Here's the problem: I finally introduced her to my family. My mom is okay with it, but my father refuses to speak with me, see me, or acknowledge that I exist. I am an only child, and his actions have torn our family apart.

I love my father, but how can I get him to understand that this is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with? How can I change his mind?

Hi all. I'm married 20 years old and my husband and I been together for the past 4 years. We have a very loving relationship in witch im very happy... I've just migrated to Australia 1 year ago, I still find it hard to adjust here as nun of my family is here and is hard not having your family around...I'm working and my husband is working and studding as well (he will be going to university next year to study for becoming a school teacher) for the moment we're living with mother in law and we're trying to save up so we can move out... This is my current situation and now my question is should I have a baby now? I really want to have a baby I know deep inside I would be the happiest mother ever :)) I come from a big family (I have 7 brothers in witch im the oldest) and in my family I was like a second mother to my younger brothers, I did everything for them I wash I cook I wake up at night when they cry to try to put them back to sleep (that was when my mom had the twins) Continue---->

My in-laws always upset me they are always rude, blut with me and not respect me at all but now I have a problem with my 8 year old baby I am simply concerned about her heath and if I see something that my husband's family is not doing right with my baby and that effects baby's health (since she is not suppose to take all kind of outside food because she is too young for all this)but they try to give her and if you say something they won't listen you. I had spoken with my husband and we had argued about it because he doesn't see anything wrong(eventhough baby's doc.said that it will effect baby's health) with that and he will never say anything to them because they are his family (he said that to me because for him his family comes firs tthan baby's health) then I though may be counselor can help us but he does not want to go there(I don't know why) I am very upset with this please advice me. thanks..

I am married to my second husband, whom I love dearly. I have children from my 1st marriage and he has children from his 1st as well. My Mother-in-law favors his children dramitacly over mine. We have approached her and she gets very defensive. She told my husband how could she love my children like she does his, after only knowing them a few years. She makes it very obvious to our children as well. I am pregnant with "our" second child together. When we had an ultrasound she didn't want to know the sex, because my husband had said he would like it to be a surprise. That made me feel like I was un-important. After all, I'm only carrying the child. I can't shange her thoughts or actions, but how can I live with this on a daily basics? Please help. All advise would be helpfull!

I grew up with a ton of family around. Now, I live far from my family and we dont see them that often. My husband keeps saying that it's okay our boy will grow up just fine. However, it really bothers me that his grandparents, unlces & aunts are all so far away. My husband is a Dr and his practices keep us here, but I feel like we need to move closer to family. Maybe this urge will go away but right now it's eating me up! Anyone else raising a family without your extended family near by???

My best friend is having trouble with her family.
She lives with her mother and three half siblings ages 11, 9, and 6. She is 14.

She is constantly being beaten up by her 11 year old brother. Not in the normal ways. He usually smacks her with books, punches her in the breasts, verbally abuses her, and now hits her on the head with Swiffer mops. Sometimes, when he is really angry, he will brandish a knife, but he puts it away when my friend threatens to call the police.

He gets angry over the smallest things- for example, my friend was on the computer and he demanded that it was his turn. When she said no, he smacked her with a book until she cried. Whenever my friend talks to her mom about this horrible problem, her mom tells her to fight her own battles.

Any advice for her? She sitting next to me and really wants advice. She hates being home with these people. Her other siblings are amazing, but her 11 year old brother makes her home life hell.
