Yes, you can bring your own address book to Basic Training ... and it is a good idea if you have a few stamped envelopes already prepped (to send home, of Course!) along with some paper with you when you arrive.

Now as far as purchasing stamps, paper, envelopes, pens, etc -- all that and MUCH, MUCH More is available at the Post Exchange .. but .. you will be in Basic -- so your time is going to be VERY LIMITED For a little while (you will get some down time .. and yes, you all will be learning about the post -- including the Post Exchange, the Chapel, the Rec Opportunities, etc).

sglmom is correct. Been there and done that too. They will normally take you to the PX/BX a day or two after getting there. Most things that you do bring from home are stored away and you have to buy what they will allow to be in the dorms/barracks. Bring your basic necessities - shampoo, soap, etc. Don't bring anything too "personal". They have you dump everything out on the bed and go through it, checking for contraband (items they don't allow in the barracks). If anything, check back with your recruiter. He/she might be able to get you an updated list from the training base as to what items to bring with you.

Best piece of advice I can give you is to remember that old saying - In one ear and out the other. Only let register what's important and what you need to know. Otherwise, let it flow on out the other side.

Good luck and be safe!
