I just never thought that I was up to the job of raising kids. I come from a background of abuse and neglect. Is that an excuse or a cop-out?

OK here goes...Picture the scene Mum,Dad, son and daughter.
Mum had a baby in between son and daughter, but lost it. Then preferred son because son replaced the lost baby. Mum told daughter this at the age of 18. Mum never cuddled daughter or showed affection from the age of 2. When daughter grew up never showed any interest in her, never had anything to do with her wedding, never sent a gift or card at Christmas time or birthdays. Never had anything to do with her grandchildren. Never came to see her in hospital when ill.

Daughter contacted her a few years ago but wasn't even mentioned in the address book, just initials, gifts given were broken, second hand or unwanted. Mum has more to do with the daughter in law and niece than own daughter. Daughter keeps getting called nieces name. Brother never invited sisterer to wedding. I could go on but you get the picture.

The problem is Mum is now 72 and ill. That is the body not the mind. What would you do

my sister is frequently trying to pick a fight with me and she's swearing to me using words I've never even heard before and its making me very, very angry. However, if that was all she was doing to me, I'd find a way to spite her. The problem is, she's doing the same thing to our parents. Just listning to her, you'd think she had no proper unbringing, but that's not true for my parents tried real hard to get my sister and I good education and besides, she's currently going to high school that is said to be among of the best school in the country. My parents have tried warning, lecturing, threatning, pleading, you name it. But all that has failed to affect her. I, personally have used more solid methods using force which apparently has failed also. The thing is, I cannot confide this problem to anyone for what would people think of my sister or my parents? And the problem is very serious and obviously needs counseling. Please help me.

Do you think the kids will wonder if their parents really wanted them, or just did it for the money?

You see parents suing this person and that person for what their kids did. Parents blame teachers for everything. Shouldn't a lot of parents point the fingers inward?

My sister in law is a beautiful, intellegent women. Until she has a couple of drinks. Then she has a mouth like a drunken sailor. Every other word is F***. I have asked her to please watch her language because we have children, and children tend to repeat what they hear. She just ignores me. Any suggestions on another way to handle this situation. We have a big family BBQ coming up and there will be beer & wine. And I am dreading her mouth?

I'm 22..Live at home, and i'm an only child. I've recently found a lovely man and we have been seeing eachother for over a month now...he lives 50 miles away from me and i go to see him every night after work....i love his company so much, sometimes i don't get back home until 1am, then last night we went clubbing and i didn't get in until 3am....my parents go crazy...they think 2am is unreasonable and say i should be in for midnight...also i shouldn't see him every night...in fact my dad sat up and waited for me until 1am last week.....i'm an adult and capable of making my own decisions...are they overprotective, i'm annoyed they try to interfere in my life.
