the males in my family gather around the TV on New Years day to watch the college football games. However the women in my family say that the tradition is actually for the males to gather around the TV and fall asleep during the college football games.

i know of a fmily where on each child's birthday, the child gets to decorate the top of the cake with M&M's any way they want.
At Christmas we all go to my mother's house. Every year someone is given a Julio Iglesias record at gift opening time. Whoever gets it passes it on the next Christmas to another family member. It's silly but we laugh like crazy. That one same album has been going around in the family for at least 10 Christmases.

Every Christmas Eve my family and I open up gifts from our stockings then we eat snacks, drink egg nog and hot cocoa and play board games. On Christmas Day we get together and have a big meal, open gifts and spend time together. For Thanksgiving my siblings and I bring food and we all gather at my mother's house and eat. When one of us has a birthday we always celebrate by going out to eat or having a family BBQ.

Opening up gifts on Christmas day not the day before. Then having a nice breakfast. Having Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day. Celebrating birthdays and Easter Sunday. Enjoying all the holidays on the holiday not the day before.

My family traditions are related to our caste-Warrier!! We are traditionally assistants to the Hindu Priests in doing their duties. Our duty involves arranging the flowers, make gralands with them to be worne on the deities, clean the temple premises etc.Apart from that, traditionally warriers were adept in Sanskrit & Malayalam and they were/are good teachers. Basically they are vegetarians.
By the time I was born, warriers had started doing other professions like Ayurvedic Doctors, Planners & excuters.

My son had this assignment too. The only thing I could tell him is that we open up presents and go to relatives homes to celebrate christmas, we have an egg hunt on easter, go to work and school on the weekdays and go to church on Sunday. Sounds exciting dosen't it?

When it's your birthday you are not allowed down stairs until after your birthday breakfast is cooked (whatever is your favourite!) and when you come down the whole family are singing you happy birthday. Then you get to open your presents!
